August 10, 2015. Cleaned up the star code from last time so it’s a little more configurable. I still have to decide what to do about the lens flare… while it isn’t missed in space, having this gigantic thing hanging in the sky with no bloom or anything looks strange from the ground. No doubt because that’s a scenario we’re all familiar with, so we know when it looks wrong! It’s possible that the best way to address this is not with lens flares but instead to add Mie scattering. August 06, 2015. Realized I could do a little better than that, star-wise! And so I did. This effort was actually inspired by seeing the screenshots from Paradox’s new game, Stellaris. One thing I haven’t decided is if I still want to keep the giant horizontal lens flares. The tech behind them is clever, but in practice they just tend to wash out the image. December 26, 2015. Actually, this is a much nicer purpose to put the waves to. I simply moved the wave code into the bit of the shader which decides how deep the offshore water is. So waves materialize out at sea and roll into the shore. There are a few odd artifacts in the sea around certain bits of terrain but I won’t worry about that right now, or possibly ever.
