The wild side

Sunday, 16 August 2015. The wild side guide. Very short post. I've started a new blog, just for fun. It will not replace this blog or overlap with it in any way - it's for wildlife-related musings rather than observations. If you'd like a look, it's here. Contains some Latin and some light swearing (but no swearing in Latin, at least not yet). Sunday, 9 August 2015. Goldfinch, singing cheerily from a high perch. The visitor trail runs along a ridge overlooking meadowland which looked perfect for hares (g...

The wild side: May 2014

http://www.mazzaswildside.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 20 May 2014. From Grebe hide, a Great Crested Grebe family was swimming by, appropriately enough - parents and two well-grown chicks. A few Blue and Great Tits were visiting the feeders - no juveniles as far as I could see - and it looks like the Wrens in the basket have fledged. On the way towards Long Lake, this little Mint Moth caught our eye as it flitted over the riverside nettles. A couple of Banded Demoiselles were by the little reedy pond just east of Willow hide. There were at least two...

The wild side: October 2014

http://www.mazzaswildside.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, 19 October 2014. A photo-tick in Hyde Park. I'd been checking out this fabuloso blog. I walked under the bridge. There were a few Cormorants swimming nearby, and one of them was bathing, so I tried for some 'bobbing to the surface' photos. Further out, a Great Crested Grebe (one of lots on the Long Water/Serpentine). The low light and reflected autumn colours have given this a distinct hint of sepia-ness. I walked down to Round Pond, the almost-circular and rather bleak lake near Kensington Palac...

The wild side: June 2015

http://www.mazzaswildside.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Friday, 19 June 2015. A flash of brilliance. How lucky am I - two birding/wildlife trips on consecutive days. Today Phil Sharp. In the car park, a cute baby Rabbit grazed, and eyed me anxiously as I took its photo through the car window. Some of the Redstarts. Though numerous they were not very approachable for us - I'd like to have another try, maybe in spring. We also found a family of Great Spotted Woodpeckers along this upper, wooded path. Here's one of the juveniles. We carried on the upper path, ha...

The wild side: June 2014

http://www.mazzaswildside.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 25 June 2014. I've been stuck in pretty much all the time since the Farnes, work deadlines and all that. My friend Imi invited me to her house in Pembury on Sunday and we spent a very pleasant couple of hours in the garden, enjoying sunshine, tea, chocolate brownies and a beautifully designed and maintained little wildlife pond that pretty much blew me away. They have also had at least one of the blue species but none were about on the day for me to ID, so here's Large Red again. This one's hi...

The wild side: Otmoor

http://www.mazzaswildside.blogspot.com/2015/08/otmoor.html

Sunday, 9 August 2015. Before you hit the reserve proper, there's an area of incredibly lovely meadowland, with trails, which is open in spring/summer only. Lots and lots of insects. Goldfinch, singing cheerily from a high perch. Insects included LOTS of Common Blues, a few darters (many more were on the reserve proper), and this fantastic Magpie Moth, the first I've seen for years. Along the trails there were lots of Brown Hawkers, and really lots and lots of Ruddy Darters. Also a beautiful Emerald ...

A birdwatchers blog.' by Chappers aka John Chapman. Tuesday, 21 May 2013. A trip to Minsmere (not the first, wont be the last! Tuesday 30th April 2013. Just a short entry here. I popped to RSPB Minsmere back at the end of April (because, yes I'm that behind in my blog of late) to see what was what and hoped to get a sighting and photograph of the Garganey Drake. That had been residing there for some time now. But no. I set myself up in a clearing which gave me a good angle to the bird and just waited for...

Tuesday, 30 December 2014. A Cold, Crisp Day at Fishers Green! Fishers Green, Cheshunt - 10th December, 14. Bright, sunny, clear skies. Cold wind. Fox; Grey Squirrel; Muntjac. It was a lovely, sunny day. Clear skies with a cold, biting wind. But I had my secret weapon on today, a lovely warm scarf. There was nothing much to be seen until I arrived at Friday Lake. Looking out I could see about 4 or 5 Great Crested Grebes. Swimming around; a lone female Pochard. And the usual Gulls. View from the Teal Hide.

http://abirdwatchersblog.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

A birdwatchers blog.' by Chappers aka John Chapman. Tuesday, 30 April 2013. My first rare of the year and a first for Suffolk. It was a Friday night, and I thought I would just pop onto BINS Click here. And see if there was anything interesting that had appeared during the day. To my pleasant surprise there was! An Eastern Subalpine Warbler. Had landed down at my local patch of Languard Common and was showing well for people. Funny, it supposed to be in Morocco! Monday, 29 April 2013. However, once in a ...

When you were a young child, right up till your late teens they are important to you. From presents and parties to going out late and not quiet remembering what happened. There important at that age.
