Building and racing an EX650R motorcycle. Sunday, August 30, 2015. Did some fibreglass work on the tail section. Fabbed this piece in order to have somewhere to mount the tail light/ licence plate/ turn signal assembly. If not that, to simply clean up the rear somewhat. a streetbike will no doubt kick up a bit of rain! New exhaust mount location. Its another Hindle titanium muffler, but a quieter one (allegedly) made for a snowmobile. Otherwise identical to a streetbike exhaust. Sunday, August 23, 2015.

Each wheel was placed in a like box and weighed on a postal scale. so the weights are likley 1-2 lbs high, but its relative. The rear 7R and galespeed wheels were weighed in the same box, likewise for the front. So the figures are less important than the weight difference. Rear wheel, cush drive and alloy sprocket. 214038 lb 18.275 lb 3.1288 lbs. Front wheel, no rotors. Galespeed with spacers, 7R without.

Am also going to run a small cafe race fairing, a 250 BMW rennsport one from Boxer Cafe. Should look pretty cool, I think. I've decided to switch machines in order to have a "do all" bike in the garage. Trackdays, commuting, touring, etc. can it be done? A few Brit bike mags like Practical Sportbikes and Performance Bikes say so, and make some suggestions. Based on a number of articles, some internet searches, and my own preferences, I ended up with this. I'll be starting another blog on the zx7r....

Tuesday, August 10, 2010. Had the ex out at the track this past weekend - just wanted a quick 20 min session to see where it was at to date. In hindsight, it wasn't that the bike was dangerous, but for real racetrack riding, I had rushed it a bit. I learned that:. 2 I pushed the brake issue - OLD as in "wafer thin" pads left, and rubber hoses - after 5-6 laps, the lever was coming back to the bar, and I'm not a late braker! Monday, July 26, 2010. Finally, the bearings, fork seals, and minutae of other parts were at the same place at the same time for once, and the bike is now on its "feet". Ok - to make it "official". Stock front wheel, bored hub to accept 636 front bearings, seals, and internal spacer; front 636 axle; 636 2003-04 triple clamps; 05-06 forks (also from a 636). This setup allows the use of the stock front rotors as well (320mm), which again saves a bit of dosh. Clip ons are from woodcraft. Clip Ons: 127.51.

Sunday, August 1, 2010. Steering damper, tires, and swingarm. Made use of the many brackets that come with a stock streetbike. Left over steering damper from another project. bolted to one of the frame brackets - fork mount was yet another steel 90 degree bracket that I fabricated to mount to the fork clamp. Old ones had the cores showing on the front! Bridgestone sport-touring tires. Horses for courses, as the Brits say. No sense putting on racing radials for the street.
