McGill Archaeological Field Methods Course

McGill Archaeological Field Methods Course. Saturday, December 3, 2011. It's not just all about digging. The last class of the semester was rather interesting and different. Not just because it was the last class of the term, but also because Colin was away (and so was our motivation to complete the readings – oops). But first of all, what are these geophysical surveys and what are they used for? In our discussion, we focused more specifically on two of them : the GPR. Ground Penetrator Radar) and the GIS.

McGill Archaeological Field Methods Course: October 2011

http://mcgillzooarchaeology.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

McGill Archaeological Field Methods Course. Thursday, October 27, 2011. Errey Day I'm Shov-vellin! The day started off pretty fantastically, I came up with a brilliant pun (seen above) based off of LMFAO’s single “Party Rockers Theme” and was busy shuffling around with spade in hand. I was very excited that day because it was Octoberfest and I was looking forward to going to the bar smelling like rancid pachyderm. During the car ride to the site (I was riding shot gun! McGill Archaeological Field Methods Course. Tuesday, October 30, 2007. No write-up at the moment, but here are some pictures from digging last Friday. Unfortunately, I wasn 't there, so I. Ll just have to take an educated guess at what. S going on, and any holes can be filled in by Cameron. S post on how the day went. The Watusi, now our primary focus for the dig (we hope to get it out by the end of the semester), as there remains far too much of the elephant 's fleshy stuff. Ll have to wait and see.

McGill Archaeological Field Methods Course: Bye Magic!

http://mcgillzooarchaeology.blogspot.com/2011/11/bye-magic.html

McGill Archaeological Field Methods Course. Thursday, November 3, 2011. The humerus was covered by layers of thick black plastic which needed to be cut out bit by bit with a pocket knife. This was slow going and kept two people busy for the entire field day, a lesson in how difficult it can be to budget time in the field when unforeseen problems arise. We eventually removed the humerus! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Ignorance is not Bliss.

McGill Archaeological Field Methods Course: October 2008

http://mcgillzooarchaeology.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

McGill Archaeological Field Methods Course. Thursday, October 30, 2008. Week 6: No silly, ribs can't have teeth. Grave 2, "The Glory". David This is impolite. Like a puzzle, but with way more bones. And muck. Lots of muck. Bonekrusher, resisting the urge to crush bone. A hoof and longbone beside a partially exposed ram horn? Bones for walking like zebra. Please Colin, teach us more! Dispite the keen interest of the diggers, the sun had had enough for the day. Week 5: Neha's Recounting. The glorious bird ...

As Promised….Parc Safari Pet Cemetery. October 27, 2009. As I left things hanging a bit in my last post I guess it is only fair to fill in the missing pieces before moving on to something else. This requires me to back track a bit first…. If you want to get caught up to date on the past two seasons you should swing by the McGiil Zooarchaeological Field School blog. We know it is large and male because we excavated and re-articulated a complete female watusi during the first season. October 23, 2009.

Day 5………. November 13, 2009. Today was the 5th and last day of the Training Week of the Archaeological Soil Micromorphology course I have been taking. It has been extremely tiresome and a bit stress inducing at times but extremely worthwhile. As an aside, I realized that some of you may have no idea what a micromorphology thin section looks like. There is an incredible range of variation but one example can be found on the wesbite for the joint Turkish/American project at Üçagizli Cave, Turkey. Today was...

Yet another blog about Archaeology, Science, and the like. Friday, March 20, 2009. Archaeodigms Part 2: Culture History. Sorry for the delay on getting this post up, I've been pretty busy. Before I get going into culture history I just want to point out that there have been some interesting and fantastic posts on theory in Archaeology and Anthropology going on both at Chris Ames' blog ( The Unsavoury Pipe.
