Mono Lake is an interesting place. When I was a teenager most of the tufa were not visible, or barely so. LA siphoned off the water from its fresh water tributaries and lowered the lake level something like 20 feet, exposing these fabulous structures. For more see my Mono Lake Panoramas gallery. This Gallery is a mixed bag of panoramas. Image 1/7 is of some outlandish sandstone near Pastel Canyon in Valley of Fire State Park, about 100 feet off the Mouse’s Tank Road. Image 2/7 is a rock panel at the Mouse’s Tank parking lot. VoF is an amazing place with clean well kept campgrounds. Image 7/7 is a feature from Lower Antelope Canyon that I really like. Death Valley is a fabulous place to photograph in the late fall, winter, and early spring. It has some of the worst roads imaginable. Pay serious attention to where you drive off the pavement. Highway 395 runs parallel to the Eastern Sierra at its most spectacular from Bridgeport to Lone Pine. As the range runs north-south, one is stuck mostly with morning light and shooting.
