Back to the Real World (aka the USA) after India and the Philippines. Sunday, July 27, 2014. I spent the weekend purging small things sprinkled about the house. As a result, no one can tell I've purged anything, except the outside garbage can, which is now full. Bid season is approaching, with the list potentially released as early as this Friday. So my stress level is slowly (rapidly? Sunday, July 20, 2014. On Curtains and Constantly Moving. Buying new liner here? Or should I use it? And, if I'm cutting...

Back to the Real World (aka the USA) after India and the Philippines. Saturday, February 21, 2015. A missing glove, found. But Japan just has a special place in my heart. This being Japan, of course the glove was there. And, not only was the glove there, but the second I walked up to the bell captain's desk, with just one black leather glove in my hand, before I could even utter a word, he looked at me with a huge smile. I started to ask, but he just said, "one moment please! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

http://ponkin.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Back to the Real World (aka the USA) after India and the Philippines. Saturday, September 27, 2014. More on bidding and unpacking. The bid season (August - November, if you're lucky, the year before an assignment ends) is a horrible time in the life of a Foreign Service Officer. As we've said before . we *have* a permanent job - why do we have to hunt for one? The peaks and valleys of hearing something promising (or discouraging! Another winter is coming . and my clothes are horribly out of date....About...

Back to the Real World (aka the USA) after India and the Philippines. Friday, November 21, 2014. What's in a name? Strong; the word for "protector" was too hard to say). Qua tặng (gift; again "gift from God" was a little long). As I thought about their personalities, it seemed to fit. Wm is definitely strong-willed and protective of his brothers. Not sure Patch is "noble" in his jokes (little boys love those potty jokes! Maybe there's something in a name after all. Saturday, November 8, 2014. Roast Squas...

Mii Kosam: Ketchup!
http://ponkin.blogspot.com/2015/08/ketchup.html
Back to the Real World (aka the USA) after India and the Philippines. Sunday, August 2, 2015. Growing things in our backyard has caused me to look up many recipes that use: cucumbers, tomatoes, basil, thyme, parsley and mint. I'm drinking cucumber mint water as I type this because, seriously, one can only eat so many cucumber spears, even tasty fresh ones. What to do with 4 pints of cherry tomatoes about to burst? Wm chopped about half before he lost interest. Patch helped pour it all in,. Wanderings of ...

Back to the Real World (aka the USA) after India and the Philippines. Monday, August 25, 2014. All along, though, his teachers have noted his empathy, and other parents have commented how much he takes care of his little brothers. When things get crazy, I try to remember this. So, when he told me nonchalantly this afternoon he got a "model behavior" award at school for helping "his friend" "A," I had to hold back some tears. Sunday, August 24, 2014. Ian has had two parents all to himself. As Greg rem...

Mii Kosam: Crown Thy Good In Sisterhood
http://ponkin.blogspot.com/2015/05/crown-thy-good-in-sisterhood.html
Back to the Real World (aka the USA) after India and the Philippines. Sunday, May 17, 2015. Crown Thy Good In Sisterhood. It's been a year to think about sisterhood, with the debate that kicked off at my alma mater at the beginning of the school year (read NYT article here. And HuffPo article on the College's resolution here. What I read with most interest (and, I admit, a twinge of sadness) were the last few paragraphs of the NYT article, describing a conflict at the end of "America the Beautiful.".

Mii Kosam: December 2014
http://ponkin.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Back to the Real World (aka the USA) after India and the Philippines. Thursday, December 25, 2014. A Christmas of Contributions. Some presents were not purchased. Cookies did not get made. Teachers gifts were not assembled. I pretty much lay in bed, being brought tea and meals, and tried to heal my back. So, though Christmas was in my house, it wasn't a Pam-hosted Christmas but a team effort. It wasn't easy to "let go" and just have things happen, but I did manage to without being too upset. I th...
