While working on this project I learned a lot of new techniques that furthered my skill set. In terms of modeling one of the most difficult areas I found to work on was the large flat sides and wings of the car. The surfaces called for a low density mesh, but the edges and interlocking panels called for a much higher mesh density. Finding the right compromise between the two was not easy. Here is a video tutorial on how to model a 12 sided dice in Blender.org. You will learn basic modelling skills as well as simple sub surf principles, the Array modifier and remove doubles tool. Read more: 12 Sided Dice. In this tutorial I show you how to create real-time reflections in Blender, using the reflection mapping setting and a light probe as the source. The video also covers the basics of good image handling, as well as the basics behind how you assign and map an image.

In this article I demonstrate my Ant VFX Shot. It showcases a procedural animation rig that I have been developing. This projects main purpose was to illustrate how the rig can be used to create useful animation without the need for key framing. I also used the opportunity to expand my compositing skills, as this shot required extensive use of render layers to achieve good quality depth of field. I also have a breakdown so that you can see the different passes that make up the shot.
