fJERDE JUNI: September 2011
http://fjerdejuni.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Today was a bad day. Tomorrow will be better. Sep 14, 2011. First day of summer school. Earlier this summer after we returned from Norway, Lilly went to a few weeks of "summer school" at Montessori Children's House. She absolutely loved it. She was always excited about going to school each day and became very fond of the teacher. But as June ended, so did school for the summer; school was on vacation, or på ferie. As Lilly would say. Then came a week long music camp back at MCH! First day of preschool.

Today was a bad day. Tomorrow will be better. May 30, 2011. Drinks outside this spring. Mostly, of course, she prefers us to play with her, or, rather, that the girls next door come over to play with her. They are both ten and Lilly so enjoys their attention. Sorry we haven't posted much here lately, but it's been a busy time. Leighton's gotten more hours at Laura Baker. Which Leighton has been helping me with a lot: we envision it as a family business down the road. Is definitely worth it. We return fro...

Conversations about the secrets of childhood. Friday, June 18, 2010. This post from a fellow blogger really gives validity to our quest for a connection to nature at MCH. A symphony of tones. The children have with those traditional items and we asked ourselves the question what are the needs (real or perceived? I thought about a passage in the book "The Tao of Montessori" by Catherine McTamaney, which I am currently reading. In it she writes:. Our preschool garden is protected from bright colored, noisy...

http://mychildrenshouse.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Conversations about the secrets of childhood. Saturday, April 25, 2015. Simone reviews the book, "Sewing in the Montessori Classroom" by Aimee Fagan. I loved this book from the opening page where Aimee says she is looking for practical life activities to include in her classroom. "I knew that I wanted activities that were culturally and socially relevant and appealing in my classroom, but what could those lessons be? For me, the answer was sewing.". All with really clear, simple instructions to follow.

The Children's House: Redshirting
http://mychildrenshouse.blogspot.com/2010/08/redshirting.html
Conversations about the secrets of childhood. Tuesday, August 24, 2010. After reading this article in the New York Times The Littlest Redshirts. I was more interested (as usual) in the reader comments that followed online. The social scientist in me loves reading all the varied opinions and "solutions" of our citizens. I had to scroll pretty far down before I found one from a Montessori parent. I appreciated her sense of calm in respect to her child's age at entering school:. Hello, Julia Child! This spr...
