Highland Wildlife & Birdwatch Safaris: March 2014
http://highlandsafaris.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 02, 2014. Started cold and snowy up here, but soon turned unseasonably milder, and, although we had a few wet and windy days, I would definitely describe it as a better than average February, and by the end of the month, it was almost 'spring-like'! Bird day-lists crept up towards 40 species, buoyed by the waders returning to their breeding grounds, whilst mammal day-lists varied between 5 and 9 species. Local speciality bird species seen regularly this month included Dipper. Guaranteed, wi...

Highland Wildlife & Birdwatch Safaris: May 2014
http://highlandsafaris.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, May 03, 2014. Saw the early arrival of spring continue in this area, and although we had a few dawn frosts and some occasional light snowfall on the mountain tops, much of the month saw us enjoy decent amounts of sunshine and temperatures regularly well into double figures - great safari weather! The vast majority of our remaining winter visiting birds departed early in the month, whilst summer visiting birds poured in throughout, helped by the frequent southerly winds. Capercaillie, Ring Ouzel.

Highland Wildlife & Birdwatch Safaris: April 2015
http://highlandsafaris.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 30, 2015. Was a bit 'back to front' weather-wise in this area! The month started off warm and sunny, fooling us all into thinking Spring had arrived, but then got progressively cooler, finishing up with a wintry blast of snow and sub-zero temperatures more akin to February! The vast majority of our remaining winter visiting birds departed by mid - month, whilst summer visiting birds poured in throughout, helped by the frequent southerly winds. Cairngorm Mountains and moorland at dawn.

Saturday, February 28, 2015. Was still very wintry in the Cairngorms National Park with regular frosts and snow at times, but thankfully, we had more safari-friendly days than we did in January! Cairngorms moorland at dawn. Local/upland/winter bird species seen regularly during the month included: Dipper. Several memorable encounters with our local 'rogue' Capercaillie. A few brief sightings of Crossbills. And single sightings of Waxwing. Mammals seen regularly during the month included: Red Squirrel.

Highland Wildlife & Birdwatch Safaris: September 2013
http://highlandsafaris.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 01, 2013. Was much more changeable than the previous month in this area weather-wise, with the odd breezy or showery day, and with temperatures noticeably cooler, and the days noticeably shortening, there was actually a slightly autumnal feel to things towards the end of the month. From a purely personal point of view, the big highlight since my last report, was to get notification from Visit Scotland that Highland Wildlife and Birdwatch Safaris. Has been awarded a 5 Star. Continued to ...

Highland Wildlife & Birdwatch Safaris: March 2015
http://highlandsafaris.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Was a bit of a mixture weather-wise in this area, starting off cold and wintry, turning milder with some sunny days mid-month, and finishing with a wet and windy spell, but in contrast to much of the UK, it was most definitely still winter this far north, and anyone considering visiting this area in March should remember to bring the appropriate clothing! A favourite local upland glen. Local speciality and upland bird species seen regularly throughout the month included: Dipper.

Friday, January 31, 2014. Was unseasonably mild (for these parts! Local speciality birds seen regularly this month included: Dipper. Whilst we also had a few brief views of Crossbill. And on the 30th, our first sighting this year of our local 'rogue' Capercaillie. Who put on quite a show! We were also fortunate to have a few true 'rarities' in our area, in the form of an Iceland Gull. And rarest of all, an American Coot. Mammals seen regularly this month included Red Squirrel. Our local Black Grouse.
