Our journey abroad…faith, history, culture, and beyond! Family: a long time in the making. November 6, 2014. When I was young I felt unusually connected to the fact that I was of Greek heritage. My great-grandparents are the members of my family who immigrated from Greece to America, so by the time I was growing up, my family was very Americanized . I am fourth generation Greek but I have always been well aware that I am 100% Greek and when I was young, I was especially proud of it! I use the word ground...

Our journey abroad…faith, history, culture, and beyond! A girls trip to Christmas wonderland: Vienna, Austria! December 4, 2014. Amazingly, my most longed for trip, started to become a reality! My incredibly supportive husband encouraged me to plan this girls trip even though it meant leaving him for a week. How can I begin to reflect on all that we have experienced the last three and a half days! Like I said, I think I left my heart in Austria. I have absolutely fallen in love with this country. Our journey abroad…faith, history, culture, and beyond! Monthly Archives: October 2014. An entire city celebrates! October 30, 2014. The Greeks possess a piety is not overbearing or imposing. It is not the type of religiosity that we would associate with, well, overly religious people . These people are not obnoxious about their faith; they do not parade it around or wear it flamboyantly on their sleeves; they obtain a deep and fluid reverence and respect. I told you, our church knows how to feast! While...

Roasted Red Pepper & Feta Dip – kelsey's kuisine
https://kelseyskuisine.wordpress.com/2015/08/03/roasted-red-pepper-feta-dip
Roasted Red Pepper and Feta Dip. Roasted Red Pepper and Feta Dip. August 3, 2015. August 30, 2015. I’ve found my new favorite dip to bring to parties (big thanks to Brittany for discovering it). It’s not the usual Lipton’s dried onion soup in sour cream (or skinny version w/ greek yogurt) and chips which will always hold a favorite place in my heart this dip is just as. It seems like you slaved away rather than shoving all ingredients it in your nutribullet for maybe 2 minutes. Insert sassy girl emoji *.

Our journey abroad…faith, history, culture, and beyond! Prague: dynamic history, spectacular architecture, delicious food and more! December 9, 2014. The third and last city on our agenda: Prague! In recent conversations, Prague has been mentioned as a spectacularly beautiful and must-see city! What a contrast to Austria! We got off the train and made our way to another beautiful Hilton hotel! Again, we received the perks of the lovely executive lounge and were greeted with a bowl of fresh fruit, nuts, y...

Our journey abroad…faith, history, culture, and beyond! The Thessaloniki International Film Festival! November 13, 2014. This past weekend we participated in an impressive cultural event of Thessaloniki: the 55th Thessaloniki International Film Festival! Who knew that Thessaloniki has their very own International Film Fest? Not being a huge film buff, I had no idea which films to choose, so we were excited when our Greek teachers began to organize a group trip to the festival. I found it interesting and ...

Writing and Wandering Adventures of Madeleine Colis. Back from VT/Boston and a Printed Manuscript! July 21, 2015. July 27, 2015. So, I have a very life/picture heavy post for you this week, because travel and friends and did I mention a printed manuscript. But I’m not hysterically excited about this or anything… not dancing around holding the brick of a thing above my head and singing LALALA I WROTE THIS BRICK! Definitely not. Ahem… anyways! So I just got back from a trip to Vermont and Boston, which was.

Our journey abroad…faith, history, culture, and beyond! Escaping to a mountain village…with bears! December 1, 2014. I agreed that it was worth a visit! We rented a car and planned to go when Alexandra (who has now officially become our adopted 18 year old daughter) visited again last weekend. Unlike Thessaloniki, we experienced the crisp cool weather that the middle of fall is supposed to bring (at least in the places we come from). While the warmer weather has been nice in Thess, I was excited to p...

Beyond the boundaries of the supermarket | Our journey abroad…faith, history, culture, and beyond!

Our journey abroad…faith, history, culture, and beyond! Beyond the boundaries of the supermarket. November 24, 2014. About a month ago I decided to make a concerted effort to give up the grocery store as much as possible. Everywhere we walk we pass fresh fruit stands and little specialty shops that sell eggs, cheeses, nuts, dried beans, etc. I love the idea of shops that specialize in certain products and thus sell fresher and higher quality options. Loukaniko in the window. Where the magic happens.
