I am slowly catching onto all this technology, having just received my first smartphone. Hold all applause, please. What’s my story? Some may say its an incredibly busy one. I myself say its simply a crazy one! I meant gorgeous …. So, say hi. Read. Laugh (where appropriate of course). Take time out. Have a T...

Sonia McPherson's Blog. Skip to primary content. Some time has passed since I’ve last put pen to paper; in a lot of ways this time has been a blessing, but in most measures it’s been bloody hard work, sweat, and tears. One thing is for certain, and that is that in this life we are given, there are no guarantees. No one can guarantee your health. No one can guarantee your safety. And no one can even guarantee the security of your work, your finances, or your lifestyle. December 12, 2013 at 8:37 pm. You ar...

Monday, 22 July 2013. You know how luck is where opportunity and preparation meet. For us luck came to us as Sam. We had chatted on the phone once, sent each other an email.but had no idea about each other, really! Well she did see the blog). So with a leap of faith we launched into the unknown.all of us! Dubbed smiley Sam after Day 1, she became our right hand girl for a couple of weeks. No job was too big or small and always with a smile on her face. An early 6am start (in the dark) to town for the day...

Wednesday, 13 November 2013. The building of a lake. As we read about over 50% of Queensland being drought stricken, my heart bleeds for them.it is a tough and trying situation to be in and pray that their strength of character pulls them through. What we did have though was a couple of little dams, so increasing surface water was the only option. The Springs Dam, aptly named because in its hay day there were free flowing springs feeding into it. That was when it rained every year and inches at a tim...

On the Peninsula: February 2013

Sunday, 17 February 2013. Yesterday we celebrated Mum's 60th birthday, just family, her request was "I would prefer to slide into 60 going un-noticed! Her actual birthday was Valentine's Day but because we all live apart the consensus was to save it up until the weekend. Mum threw a family statistic at me though.she is the only person in her family to reach 60! She lost both her parents in their 50s and unfortunately her brother in his 30s! Plenty of little helpers. Typical behaviour of a mother of boys!

Thursday, 31 January 2013. What was Cyclone Oswald became a monsoonal event. The resident weather man advising of the impending arrival of the monsoons had me motivated to be organised, a day in advance to make it to our planned 3 day trip to Caloundra. Thursday morning, after measuring 84mm, the chooks and dog were sorted, car fuelled, threw the bags in the car and journeyed down the road, notorious in our region for being a terrible road, I was pleased to have my companion with me in the drivers seat.

Sunday, 23 February 2014. They are the life and livelihood of a cattle farmer…apart from pasture, we would consider them our top priority. They are the cogs in the machine. And these little fellas are part of the production line. Like all farmers we talk about our cows and calves all of the time.I liken it to running a boarding school. They are under our care. Their nutrition, their education, their welfare…it is our responsibility. The first big round of branding was finished a couple of weeks ago.

Thursday, 27 September 2012. I love that we have a vast array of animals here. Every afternoon black cockatoos grace us with their noisy presence, I don't know what is going on as I have never seen so many at one time. Legend has it that for every black cockatoo you see you will get an inch of rain. I counted 50 yesterday afternoon on my run.50 inches! Maybe it is 50 days until the next rain event. But it was all over quick. We watched him gracefully move on,. Birdlife in the creek. Ducks on the lake and.
