Text Dash: Sara Creasy: January 2013

Wednesday, January 9, 2013. Pretty much the first thing MCP and I did when we met was exchange manuscripts - mine was an early version of Song of Scarabaeus. His was the first novel in a fantasy trilogy. While I fell in love with his writing, I admit that fantasy is not really my thing. (At least it wasn't until Game of Thrones. The TV show), which really isn't that fantastical anyway.). Which is the protagonist's name and I think a lovely evocative title, but Tor disagreed and it became The Kassa Gambit.

Wednesday, November 30, 2011. 13-Step Program: What do I do next with my NANOWRIMO novel? Mary Robinette Kowal writes an inspiring post. On finishing up your NANOWRIMO novel. I agree with her that the important thing, whether or not you finished your manuscript or even reached 50,000 words, is that you're writing. Because writing is hard work! 1 Don't show it to anyone. Please don't. Go and buy some celebratory chocolate instead. 4 With your new outline as a guide, figure out which parts of your first dr...

Text Dash: Sara Creasy: Hit & miss: 2 movie reviews
http://saracreasy.blogspot.com/2012/07/hit-miss-2-movie-reviews.html
Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Hit and miss: 2 movie reviews. This is a story that could not be told in America. In America the kids in the projects would have guns and the movie would be over in 3 minutes. These kids in the south London "block" (council estate) have kitchen knives and super soakers. Okay, one of them has a samurai sword. Rise of the Planet of the Apes. This is a movie about chimps with anger issues, and misplaced anger at that. On speed and Free Willy. So you liked the first, not the second?

Friday, December 30, 2011. SF subgenres and plots. Back to io9 for their list of the Ten plotlines you'll find in science fiction. My favorite is definitely interstellar travel, with post-apocalyptic world and alien invasion coming in at joint second place (as long as neither is too militarized). Stargate. Would be my modern example - technically interplanetary travel, not interstellar, but you couldn't tell the difference. Things into existence are kind of boring. Links to this post. And bits of Thor.

Tuesday, January 24, 2012. More on the nostalgic front, because we are what we were as children, are we not? I've been feeling crafty lately - actually, ever since I was pregnant, when I started making a collage alphabet frieze for my daughter's bedroom. Each letter is a 6" square. My retired school-teacher-mum made me change A for alien. And O for owl. My mum rates those baby alphabet books by whether they include giraffe and icecream ( baaaaad. Or goat and igloo (good).). Links to this post. Last month...

Saturday, March 2, 2013. I know all I'm blogging about these days is MCP's new book, but that's because I don't have a whole lot to talk about in my writing life these days. Progress is slow, but always exciting. This month MCP is interviewed in Clarkesworld Magazine, and has some interesting things to say about The Kassa Gambit, shoes, Jack Vance, and dogs:.
