This Retired Life: Fun wit the Comcast/Xfinity Beast

http://mcwong1947.blogspot.com/2013/03/fun-wit-comcastxfinity-beast.html

Life as a retired Boomer. (NOT about Finances! Thursday, March 21, 2013. Fun wit the Comcast/Xfinity Beast. Wasted half an hour on the phone with Comcast aka Xfinity (wasted first ten minutes trying to find their phone number on their site) attempting without success to reduce service to save on my monthly bill. Last year I reduced my internet speed to save money; the standard service is around 12mbps; the *only* lesser option is 1mbps, for which I save about ten bucks. One, or 12 - cute, huh? Also disco...

This Retired Life: Why We All Hate Facebook's New Not-Email Message Service (And Why We're Probably Full Of It)

Life as a retired Boomer. (NOT about Finances! Tuesday, November 16, 2010. Why We All Hate Facebook's New Not-Email Message Service (And Why We're Probably Full Of It). I am puzzled by the seemingly intense hostility to the mere *idea* of FB organizing its info feeds in what they hope will be a more convenient way. I'll have to see how it's executed, which I haven't been able to do yet, but notionally it seems like the start of a good idea. You will NOT reorganize your communications method! Apple should...

This Retired Life: California vs. Elsewhere: Living For the Weather Vs. Living In Spite Of The Weather

http://mcwong1947.blogspot.com/2011/11/california-vs-elsewhere-living-for.html

Life as a retired Boomer. (NOT about Finances! Tuesday, November 29, 2011. California vs. Elsewhere: Living For the Weather Vs. Living In Spite Of The Weather. In a recent discussion among fellow journalists, we were comparing places we've lived, and where is better. Weather, traffic, living expenses, family, relatives who need care, and job availability were all mentioned. Several described the San Francisco area, where I live, as too expensive - "spendy" is how htey put it. I replied:. Sometimes, thoug...

Life as a retired Boomer. (NOT about Finances! Thursday, September 23, 2010. Remember when you had a train set? Look at this one! My brother Dennis sent me this link to a video of the doggonest miniature train setup you've ever seen:. In Germany, covering nearly half an acre, at a cost of 8 million Euros (paid for by charging admission). My friend Mark Cappel remarked when I sent him this link:. Have you ever had a train set? Yeah, but you should have *told* us you were getting rid of it! Look at this on.

Skeptical Politics: Ron Paul vs. The Warmongers

http://mcwong1948.blogspot.com/2011/12/ron-paul-vs-warmongers.html

My Contrarian/Libertarian Take on Tiresome Political Events. Friday, December 16, 2011. Ron Paul vs. The Warmongers. Ron Paul was terrific in the Dec 14, 2011 Republican candidate’s debate - the Fox News hosts actually asked him more questions and let him speak more than ever. The result was a strong statement of his positions. Mode, where we throw trick questions at you, hammer you on points we don't hammer others on, express a level of incredulity not visible elsewhere, and other debate tricks. The str...

My Contrarian/Libertarian Take on Tiresome Political Events. Sunday, October 28, 2012. Reason Foundation California Voters’ Guide: November 2012 CA Ballot Propositions. By Adrian T. Moore, Ph.D. California’s unemployment rate is at 10.7 percent (as of July data), and the current state budget is already billions in the red due to shortfalls in tax collections. Voters are going to have to look seriously at the choices these initiatives represent. It does not guarantee more education funding. While Prop...

My Contrarian/Libertarian Take on Tiresome Political Events. Wednesday, November 30, 2011. Democats, Republicans- both the same. Ron Paul would be a real kick as President, wouldnt' he? One says of Obama: ". This is a professor of constitutional law, now a US President. He knows damn well that Guantanomo is a cesspit of bad prior POTUS behavior, but one rooted in extra-territorial precedent. My altruism says: free them.". Another replies, ". It would sure be a hoot if Ron Paul got nominated and then, eve...

My Contrarian/Libertarian Take on Tiresome Political Events. Wednesday, January 4, 2012. The Ron Paul 3rd Place Finish- What Will It Mean for the Future of His Goals? Venture Beat talks about Why the Internet Was Wrong. In predicting a bigger vote total in Iowa:. Good points. These were noted beforehand; the vote seems to have illustrated the problem of predicting elections from just counting the tech savvy. Not surprising. OTOH see Reason's "The Bright Side of Ron Paul's Third-Place Finish.".

Nora discovered the Christmas tree. At first she would roll or crawl over to it and just pet it. Which then escalated to attempting to eat all of the Christmas lights she could possibly reach. Our attempt at a picture of 5 wiggleworm cousins. We have a lot of birthdays to celebrate over Christmas! We also ha...

Life and Travels- Mac McCarthy. Sunday, October 16, 2011. I Hate Shiny Laptop Screens. The Worst, and the Best, and the Worst Again. Three parts to this story: Dell's mirrored laptop screens, Photodon's antireflective film, Photodon's extraordinary customer service, and my complete inability to apply the film even with a second chance. I made the first mistake: I bought a Dell Inspiron laptop, which is huge and weighs a ton, instead of buying a svelte 'netbook' and saving myself a lot of arm-pulling grief.
