About This Blog | provoke love
https://mddanner.wordpress.com/this-blog
I’ve been blogging for a number of years at provoke love. As the name implies my goal is to provoke conversation and movement towards Jesus- like love for neighbor and enemy alike. I gravitate towards theory and theology which leads, often times, to critique of current modes of doing and being church in America. I also seek to bring an anabaptist theological perspective to what is happening in our context and world. Way to read this blog is through “agreeing” or “disagreeing”. You can reach me by email.
Striped Carpeting | provoke love
https://mddanner.wordpress.com/2015/05/20/striped-carpeting
May 20, 2015. May 20, 2015. We had a problem at church. The carpeting in our basement meeting space was old. The carpet wasn’t just old, it was unraveling at the seams. The estimate to replace the carpet was approximately 15% of our budget – and that’s IF the loose tiles underneath weren’t asbestos. If the tiles were asbestos, the cost would rise. The presenting symptom is unravelling carpet. The underlying illness is a failure to thrive in a key aspect of church health – growth/stability. ...8211; Leade...

Leadership: The relationship between church and business | provoke love
https://mddanner.wordpress.com/2015/08/20/leadership-the-relationship-between-church-and-business
Leadership: The relationship between church and business. August 20, 2015. If I ran a business the way you run the church, it would be bankrupt. Raise your hand if you’re a pastor or church leader and you’ve ever heard that complaint! I see that hand…and that one…and that one…. The problem with this church is that it’s run too much like a business. What is the proper relationship between church and business when it comes to leadership? For me, when it comes to management, process, visioning, innovation, ...

Disclaimer: Posts in this series will be my attempts to process what I’m reading in the books of Peter Rollins. They are in no way representative of his actual writings, in this case how (not) to speak of god. Also spoilers, sweetie. Everything I think about God is based on perception. How could it not be? The more difficult reality to accept is that. No one else’s understanding is any more sure. He likens our re...
Oklahoma, Day 3 | everyday people

A blog for those who want to follow Jesus and love people in day-to-day life. Oklahoma, Day 3. Media coverage of the Moore, Oklahoma, disaster relief efforts led us to think that thousands of workers were here, efficiently razing houses, removing debris, and restoring order to the Oklahoma City suburb. Megan and I were somewhat concerned that we would merely be in the way. We are learning that this is what disaster relief is like: there is no completed project, no fulfilling ending. Just many small p...

A blog for those who want to follow Jesus and love people in day-to-day life. Oklahoma, Day 4. It’s actually the morning of Day 5 now, but Megan and I were so wiped out from working in the 95-degree heat yesterday that we were asleep by 7:00 last night. So after 11 hours of sleep, I’m the first one up and am using this little slice of quiet time to reflect on the week and catch up on writing. The Kingdom of God is like… volunteers flooding in from every corner of the country to spend a few hours or...

A blog for those who want to follow Jesus and love people in day-to-day life. Oklahoma, Day 1. I’m typing this from a cot in the darkened gym of the Oklahoma City Rescue Mission, where my daughter Megan and I, along with roughly 40 other disaster relief volunteers (from 13 different states, one very friendly Texan named Amy tells me) are sleeping tonight. I gulped back tears, looked at Meg, and said, “Do you still want to do this Oklahoma thing? Where would we put our stuff? I’ve decided to blog ab...

A blog for those who want to follow Jesus and love people in day-to-day life. People Who Have Wrecked My Life, Part 2 – Ken & Tracey. Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow. – Isaiah 1:17. Twenty-four hours into our church’s annual youth summer mission trip, I met two people who instantly changed my outlook on life. (I started to write “changed my life”… but I guess that will depend on what I. 8220;Yeah… ”. Awkward silence&#...

A blog for those who want to follow Jesus and love people in day-to-day life. Does God care about food? My last blog post was at the start of the “Seven” food fast, which my youngest daughter, Megan, and I took part in throughout September. (If you aren’t familiar with “Seven,” you might want to go back and read my Sept. 7 post first.) Basically, we each picked seven food items (including beverages) and ate only those for an entire month. So what was the point? So I’m doing it alone. I’ll...People Who Ha...

My youngest daughter, Meg, and I have decided to take on Jen Hatmaker’s “Seven” fast this year, starting right after the upcoming Labor Day weekend. If you’re not yet familiar with this fast, you can get the full scoop by reading Jen’s book,. Seven: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess. A blog for those who want to follow Jesus and love people in day-to-day life. I love exploring new territory (my family claims vacations with me are not restful), being outdoors, sipping coffee or wine on our covered porch (especially if a storm is rolling in), and reading stuff that challenges the status quo (thank you Shane Claiborne, John Perkins, Hugh Halter, Brandon and Jen Hatmaker, David Fitch, Alan Roxburgh, and others whose books have wrecked my life). A blog for those who want to follow Jesus and love people in day-to-day life. Learning the Unforced Rhythms of Grace. We live in a culture of frenzy. Sometimes I’d like to do that here. Sometimes I bet God just wants to scream, “STOP IT! But, because he’s God, he whispers it instead: “Are you tired? Burned out on religion? Pause (even though you’re trying to read this blog entry quickly because you have a dozen things to do today). Read that last paragraph again. Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? We ARE ti...

The Daniels
Welcome to The Daniels Family. Marty, Diane and Braden. Sunday, April 27, 2014. We took a vacation to the most magical place on earth.Disney World! We met Zizz, Tish and Kelsey in Orlando and spent 6 days having fun in the sun. We rented a nice house with 6 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a game room, swimming pool and hot tub. We were about 10 miles from Disney so it worked out wonderfully! Marty cooked us all breakfast every day and Zizz cleaned. Talk about having it made! Braden had a BLAST! July 15, 2006.

Grafika – netrukdo. Korporacija IBM pranešė pristač...
