February 16, 2013. First there were the pre-party preparations. The children were very busy all morning baking, decorating, and setting up. Then, there was the Valentine's Day party! And the birthday cake celebrating the age of 4 and the friendship between children. And the notes passed out to each of their classmates. Such a fun day of friendship, sharing, and love! February 14, 2012. The first 14 days of February were all about love. Here are some of the love and heart inspired projects we did. We cut potatoes into heart shapes and then had the children stamp with red, pink, and purple tempera paint. After the students decorated construction paper hearts with tissue paper scraps, we glued 3 of the heart together. This made a nice 3-D heart decoration. Each student decorated a white lunch with markers, heart shapes, and stickers. Valentine's Day Cooking Project.

August 29, 2011. Today the children got to practice cutting, using platic knives and fruit. They shared cutting boards and got right to work on apples, peaches, strawberries, grapes, pears, and banana. The best part was eating the fruit salad they made. This activity is part of our farm and grocery store theme. August 19, 2011. We were excited to visit Comstock farm to help harvest some vegtables for the food bank. We had a chance to pick tomatos, peppers, and a few strawberries. So much fun on the farm!

October 25, 2011. We have done so many things these last few weeks to celebrate fall! We made these after listening to the Apple Star Story. When the apple was cut in half we were able to see the star inside. Painting and Print Making with Leaves. We used tempra and leaves from a tree down the road. November 24, 2011. Toward the end of fall we began preparing for our Thanksgiving feast. We strung colorful necklaces using cereal. We decorated vests with colorful paint. We put heavy cream in a jar and shook it to make butter. We formed dough into biscuits for our potluck meal. And we got all dressed up to share our feast. November 9, 2011. February 27, 2013. We were so lucky to have a planned visit from the paramedics at the end of February. It was the perfect way to learn more about taking care of others and added to some of the interactions in the 'health clinic' we had set up in the dramatic play area. Students learned about calling 911, applying pressure to wounds, and wrapping bandages on to their stuffed patients. Pulling a bag of paramedic gear is very hard work. Best done with some help. December 17, 2012. Meadowlark now calls the building at the corner of Mansfield and Fairview "home"! After months of renovating and preparing the school, last week we opened the doors to our new space. As the children become accustomed to our new environment, we have tried to keep as much consistency across the program as possible. The children are playing and getting acquainted with the toys . . . January 13, 2012. Our theme for January is winter and snow. Here are some of the things we are worked on this month. The children used cotton balls and cut up paper strips. We used light and bright blue paint. I cut pieces into rectangles and used packing tape to close up 2 of the ends. It made the perfect bubble wrap mitt for the children's hands. This was the large bubble wrap and I'd love to try it with the tiny bubble wrap as well. Look at how nice the pattern looks at the end. Wood Stick Snow Flakes.
