The Dispatch: August 2014

Can you believe it's September? While normally in Shenyang I might dread any reminder that winter is coming, with our departure set to take place in mid-December, I am allowed to fully enjoy my favorite month in Northeast China without fearing the long, cold winter to come. September also holds lots of fun this time around. Our anniversary is Friday- four years! Pretty different from birthdays which stand out for a little while and then fade and run together for me. Hope you've enjoyed the last glimpses ...

Mingalaba, it's Monday, when I post something related to our next post: Rangoon, Burma/ Yangon, Myanmar. Exploring this book was so much fun since we've hit the majority of sights to see in China and some in Southeast Asia. Of course the Oceania portion is totally unknown to us, but maybe one day! Http:/ www.suchandsuch.co/barbara-ireland-the-36-hours-books/. 36 Hours in Yangon, Myanmar. The best part is that after only five weeks in Burmese classes, I've heard of a lot of the recommended spots! We start...
The Dispatch: Our FS Journey
http://www.meaganbrooks.blogspot.com/p/our-fs-journey.html
As we were going through this process I (Meagan) scoured the internet for what to expect as far as time frames go. Suffice it to say ours didn't feel normal, per se, but we were glad that we found ourselves in a pretty flexible situation so we could make a move when called. Here's our timeline for those who are curious like I was:. June 4, 2011- R takes Foriegn Service Officer Test. June 21, 2011- Results are in- he passes! July 8, 2011- Madarin phone test. March 5, 2012- Med Clearance granted. October 3...
The Dispatch: So many good books...
http://www.meaganbrooks.blogspot.com/2015/08/so-many-good-books.html
So many good books. It's been a while since I posted any book recommendations (over a year). That's not because I haven't been reading. I just got so far behind, and the list grew too long, and I felt like I owed it to you to review ALL THE BOOKS. 1 The Nesting Place: It Doesn't Have to Be Perfect to Be Beautiful by Myquillyn Smith. On the surface this is a book about decorating, but it's actually about so much more. Myquillyn Smith (who blogs at http:/ www.thenester.com/. All the wood panelling! A Survi...
The Dispatch: Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens
http://www.meaganbrooks.blogspot.com/2015/07/kenilworth-aquatic-gardens.html
Lotuses as far as the eye can see. Flowers in various stages of bloom and decay. So when R booked a trip home to Oklahoma for this past weekend, I knew I should use it as an excuse to get out and explore some. Without any Burmese homework to tie me down, I was free to do as I pleased. Lots of photographers and even this painter out to admire the beauty. While I wasn't so keen on the cultural activities (we will have PLENTY of those coming our way in just about two months), I do love lotus flowers. The pa...

Frequent Flyer McGuires: July 2014
http://flyermcguires.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 28, 2014. The weekends here in Turkey are our time to get away as a family and have fun. The weekdays can be hectic with work, school/summer camp/swim lessons for E, half marathon training, cooking, cleaning, bath time, pumping, nursing.well, you get the idea. Even little D gets exhausted from his Monday through Friday routine of tummy time and drooling with the nanny. But Saturday and Sunday is when we throw out routine and try to get away. The view from the restaurant. E and the ducks.
Heads and Tales: Meet the Teacher

Hello dear friends and family. Most of you who know Alan would think we would have been the first ones to have a blog, but alas it is finally here! We hope you enjoy some snapshots of our normal life - that might not seem so normal as we live overseas - and enjoy keeping up to date with our family. Friday, September 19, 2014. Laura Cate was so nervous going to meet the teachers, but as soon as she stepped into the classroom her fears were relieved! Laura Cate outside her classroom door. From Grits to Rice.

Tuesday, June 16, 2015. It was a fun day. We even got sun burns! The sun's rays at this altitude are nothing to mess around with. Sunscreen for everyone next time. In other news, my boys are learning Spanish! D can actually say three words now: Hola, Agua and Gracias. And E comes home every day with new songs that he has memorized and new phrases or words that his teachers taught him. It's time for mom to get on the ball and start taking lessons of her own! Proudly waving his flag. E is at the top! It Mi...

Monday, June 30, 2014. But instead of focusing on the fact that they are gone, I choose to focus on the fond memories. The last couple weeks especially, were full of good times, from a traditional Turkish dinner (with belly dancer! To a fun-filled day at the water park, to a farewell family BBQ and last but not least, the Consulate Independence Day party where we all (maybe) had a bit too much drink that night. Afternoon at the pool - E and his buddy. Day at the water park with all the kids. As I said ea...

Wednesday, May 20, 2015. We arrived in Bogota last week after what seemed like a lifetime of hoop-jumping, packing and preparation. It sure ain't easy picking up and relocating your life every 2-3 years! I do have a job that requires Internet, so we shot off a quick email to the powers-that-be and waited. Turned out, our apartment was no longer available at all. Packout had taken place the day before, so all our stuff was gone. We were within our weight limits and things were looking up. That didn't make...

Thursday, March 19, 2015. Old Friends Meet Again. Missing from this photo is E's dear friend M, who is still with his Mommy and Daddy in Africa. Unfortunately, we will miss them this time around, but hope to see them soon! Friday, March 13, 2015. Where The Heck Have You Been? MeaganBrae's Blog
Sunday, July 17, 2011. Yes, instead of my dear friend Meagan writing her very first post it's me. Kind of like a Jennifer Lopez (booty definitely included), but better! This blog is hers, it's new, and i'm sure it will go through a TON of changes until she finds something that represents the wonderful kind of person she is. This blog will help me as well, it will keep me informed of her busy little life. I love Meagan Vestby and I know you will too. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.
