Monday, April 25, 2011. Well Then, That's That! So I'm married. Little Mary Switchblade said "I do," even after our officiant made her promise to love me if my robot and ray gun collection overruns the entire house. Now that the wedding's over, I'm hoping I'll be better about updating the blog. No promises, but I'll do my best. I've got many, many new toys and I really should get off my butt and get them up on the ol' Attic. So I'll do my best! Posted by Doc Atomic. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). BLOG Dead ...

ATTIC OF ASTOUNDING ARTIFACTS: August 2012
http://astoundingartifacts.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 16, 2012. Died: SF Author - Legend! I was sad to recently learn that Harry Harrison passed away. According to his official web site, he was 87 years old. He was a nice, friendly man, someone who had no problem chatting with me for a surprisingly long time. I'm glad I was able to speak with him, and I'm sure he'll be sorely missed, both inside and out of the science fiction community. HARRY HARRISON: AN UNPUBLISHED INTERVIEW. The story focuses on Bill, a hapless draftee conscripted into a...

Monday, February 21, 2011. Posting Schedule. Because I'm Lame. Okay I realize that as time passes, my posts become more and more infrequent. I've got good excuses - I'm a hard working freelancer who's just trying to raise enough money to buy more toys! But I admit, it's still pretty lame. So here's the deal. From now on, this blog will be updated once a week. Most likely. Would I prefer to update The Attic daily? Anyway, that's that! New post - a substantive. Post - on either Tuesday or Thursday! The cha...

ATTIC OF ASTOUNDING ARTIFACTS: August 2010
http://astoundingartifacts.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 28, 2010. I know I'm supposed to update this blog, but I've gotta admit, I've been a little distracted lately. See, Ol' Doc Atomic is engaged. And I don't mean, "I'm engaged in the act of collecting toys." (Even though I always am! No, I mean engaged. Engaged. Like, you know, to get married. So I've been a little less focused than usual, and the blog, well, it's suffering for it. Rest assured, this blog has not. But you'll understand if I've got a few other things on my mind! No particul...

ATTIC OF ASTOUNDING ARTIFACTS: January 2010
http://astoundingartifacts.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 23, 2010. A Picture's Worth A Thousand. Toys? Last night, I had the distinct pleasure of playing host to artist Steven Skollar. Who was over at the Attic to take some photographs of my robots and ray guns. Skollar's a painter - and a very good one, at that - and needed the pictures to use as references for an upcoming series of portraits. Painter Steven Skollar taking a reference photo of Irwin's Shooting Man From Mars. So yeah, you can understand why I was so happy to help him out.

Monday, May 31, 2010. A Question for Collectors: How Important Is Rarity? I'm curious as to how all of you collectors feel about an object's rarity, and how much weight you put on rarity when considering whether to add something to your own collections. A rare example of the Atomic Robot Man, with a stamp from the 1950 New York Science Fiction Conference on the back. (Read more about it here. Do you particularly like rare items? Do you seek out rare items? Posted by Doc Atomic. Sunday, May 30, 2010.

Sunday, January 30, 2011. Pre-Production Space Trooper (Yoshiya/1959/Japan/6 inches). Most collectors have "holy grails.". You know, the pieces we dream about even though the odds say we'll never, ever, ever. Get our hands on them. The ones that keep us away long into the night, dreaming impossible dreams of glory through astonishing acquisition. Well This robot's one of mine. And right now, it's sitting on my desk in front of me. You're looking at a Pre-Production Sample. Pre-Production Samples were one...

ATTIC OF ASTOUNDING ARTIFACTS: July 2011
http://astoundingartifacts.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 25, 2011. I'm Making a Documentary! I'm currently in production on a documentary called Plastic Galaxy: The Story of Star Wars Toys. It is, as the title suggests, a movie about. Star Wars. The film will explore the history and pop cultural impact of the action figures, play sets, space ships, and props that we all know and love - all through conversations with fellow collectors, former Kenner and Hasbro employees, toy experts, and more. And, of course, there'll be a lot of cool toys! So that...
