What’s in a Name? Self-Respect, Validation of My Identity, and a Sense that My Teachers Care. Growing up Indian in America, I was proud of my culture. I joined my parents and their Indian friends for holiday celebrations and in working to create an Indian cultural center in Atlanta, my home town. I loved being Indian as much as I loved being American. Nevertheless, I hated my name. (It’s pronounced key-YAH-tee.). 2014 Distinguished Faculty Award for Research and Scholarship. Dare to Lead - A Dun and Bradstreet Initiative. The Indian woman has come a long way. A few decades back, her concerns centered on issues of emancipation or how they can enter professions that have predominantly been male bastions. Today, she is a preferred choice in most professions and increasingly shares equal opportunities with her male compatriots. What's more, she today aspires to take center stage and is more willing than ever to take on global leadership positions. Website by Media Fusion.
