Don’t just sit there! Prolonged sitting linked to early mortality in women. January 15, 2014. ITHACA, N.Y. A woman’s body at rest will remain at rest and that means health woes for older women. Worse still, Seguin said, excess sedentary time tends to make it harder to regain physical strength and function. Women begin to lose muscle mass at age 35, a change that accelerates with menopause. Regular exercise, especially lifting weights and other muscular strength-building exercises, helps to counte...In ge...

Philandering fairywrens keep their species intact. September 30, 2013. CORNELL UNIVERSITY PRESS RELEASE. FOR RELEASE: Sept. 30, 2013. Philandering fairywrens keep their species intact. They had all the building blocks to get going on the classic speciation process, said Baldassarre. But then they came back into contact too early, and they’re still able to mate with each other. Interestingly, we found that happens only when they’re deciding who to cheat with. Working in an area of Queensland where only or...

Midwest Canine Influenza outbreak caused by new strain of virus. April 12, 2015. The outbreak in the Midwest had been attributed to the H3N8 strain of virus, which was identified in the U.S. dog population in 2004 and has been circulating since. The H3N2 virus had not been previously detected in North America. The outbreak in Chicago suggests a recent introduction of the H3N2 virus from Asia.
