Poetry | Meg McKinlay

https://megmckinlay.com/books/poetry

Children's Writer and Poet. The Truth About Penguins. Bella and the Wandering House. Duck for a Day. Before I started writing for children, I was a poet. I think I’ll always write poetry, no matter what else I do, and am always pleased when I can bring some sort of poetic sensibility to my prose. I’ve published poems in literary journals such as. Westerly, Blue Dog,. And in 2007 launched my first collection,. Samples of my poetry may be viewed here. Blog at WordPress.com. Follow “Meg McKinlay”.

Ten Tiny Things: February 2013

http://tentinythings.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 26 February 2013. Some new tinies have come to us from Meadow Springs, near Mandurah. With many thanks to Connor (8), Erin (11) and Dad (42) for these gems. It was great to meet you guys at Perth Writers Festival, and we hope you're having extra fun these days on your walks to school. A very surprised letterbox (Connor). A tree that looks like someone was planted upside down and grew branches from their legs (Connor). Two holes in the path where a very small space rocket must have landed (Dad).

Ten Tiny Things: December 2012

http://tentinythings.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 4 December 2012. The Ten Tiny Things team has been travelling. And that's good because it means we can collect lots of tinies - in our minds' eyes and in our cameras. But the trick then is to find time, in between travels, to post them here for you. Today there is a window of time, a tiny, rare thing in itself, so here are some tinies from Kununurra, way up in the top end of Western Australia. So tiny and light he can walk on water . The fabulous reeds in which the birds hide.

And so he put his head down and was walking and walking -. To the park, to the park -. Mr and Mrs Slater. Saturday, 26 May 2012. Backyard Things, by Frané. Today, illustrator Frané Lessac. Frané herself, and we would definitely add them to our list if we spotted them in the wild. Cockatoo in the old gum tree.

So what did he find first? A stick, of course! A tiny pink clover, like in Horton Hears a Who. Can you see the speck? A little gooey seed thingy. What are they doing here? Friday, 20 July 2012.

Ten Tiny Things: Transforming Tinies

http://tentinythings.blogspot.com/2013/03/transforming-tinies.html

Sunday, 10 March 2013. Today we're highlighting a different sort of tiny, or perhaps a different way of seeing tinies. As it happens, Meg is a bit shortsighted, and that means that from a distance, things aren't always what they seem. Here are some misunderstood tinies - some of them kickstarted ideas, while others just made Meg smile. None of them could have been seen in this way - or perhaps at all - if Meg had been driving. A viper makes its way across the local park. 14 March 2013 at 11:09. I love th...

Ten Tiny Things: June 2012

http://tentinythings.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 26 June 2012. Do You Know Where the Fairies Live? One day, three girls went for a walk. They walked around the streets of Kensington, WA, and they found some tiny things. Then they wrote some wonderful captions and sent them to us here at the Ten Tiny Things blog. And we said ooh. Because they were such excellent tiny things. This is where the fairies live (Ava). It's a horsie. Me go for a ride? They look like orange fingers or eggs (Amelie). It is glowing like fire or chocolate (Amelie). Since ...

November 19, 2008. I saw Teru Kuwayama. Speak at the George Eastman house this summer. They had a travel photographer’s series, and there were about 4-5 photographers who gave lectures. His was most interesting to me. He’s been photographing primarily in Afghanistan for the last few years. He’s lived with citizens as well as soldiers. He spoke more intelligently about the war there than anyone I’ve heard. Below are some other photographs I’ve been looking at:. Posted by meg mclaughlin. November 19, 2008.
