http://singingasongofsixpence.blogspot.com/2014/02/birthday-train-cake.html
Monday, February 3, 2014. This is the cake I made for my son's birthday a while ago*. He's completely obsessed with trains, so I decided to make him a train cake. For his second birthday, I made him a car cake. But this year's definitely had to be a train. I posted this on my other blog. Last summer, but for some reason never posted it here.). Here's what you'll need to make a train cake:. 2 boxed cake mixes (and everything needed on package to make) or double batch of your favorite cake recipe. So once ...

Monday, May 5, 2014. A Letter a Day preschool unit - F through J. Here's the next set of letters for my "a letter a day" preschool unit! You can see the first ones here. And remember before reading the story, introduce the letter and theme for the day. For example, on the day you teach the letter F, hold up the book and ask the kids what they see on the cover ("a fish! By Marcus Pfister, Fidgety Fish and Friends. He used little bits of curly ribbon as fish food! Books: Grandma, Grandpa, and Me. Family pi...

A Song of Sixpence: a more meaningful Easter egg hunt
http://singingasongofsixpence.blogspot.com/2014/04/a-more-meaningful-easter-egg-hunt.html
Friday, April 18, 2014. A more meaningful Easter egg hunt. I got to host our Easter day for our preschool group, and I wanted to do something a little more focused on Christ for our Easter activities, to teach them the actual story of Easter. I came across this fabulous idea to put items and scriptures inside plastic eggs that tell the story of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection. Here are the 12 items I used for my eggs:. 4 red cloth (I used a piece of ribbon). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

A Song of Sixpence: Preschool - getting started
http://singingasongofsixpence.blogspot.com/2014/03/preschool-getting-started.html
Wednesday, March 26, 2014. Preschool - getting started. Last fall I started a little preschool group with some of the moms and kids in our neighborhood. We meet twice a week for about an hour (often longer so the kids can play and we can visit). We spent the fall learning the alphabet - more on that coming soon! Here is the basic schedule we follow every day:. I bought one of those hanging pocket things at the Dollar Spot at Target (love that place! Here's a link to print your own! And have the kids poin...

A Song of Sixpence: May 2013
http://singingasongofsixpence.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 29, 2013. I've been kind of slacking in the blog-posting field as of late. Some of that is because I've been spending more time posting on my food blog. And some of it is that we've been spending lots of time out in our yard and at the park because the weather's been so nice! Oh, I love spring! And there's a new park with a splash pad really close to us, so we've been there almost every day since it opened. Loving it. And of course I used the same fabric as his beloved "train blankie!

A Song of Sixpence: construction site birthday party
http://singingasongofsixpence.blogspot.com/2014/09/construction-site-birthday-party.html
Thursday, September 18, 2014. Construction site birthday party. Apparently I took the summer off from blogging. Not necessarily intentionally, just other things taking up my time! So I'll try to get caught up a bit - starting off today with some fun birthday party ideas, then I'll try to catch up on all my preschool posts! Let's start off with the invitations:. Decorations were pretty simple: some black tablecloths from the dollar store, a couple of construction truck paper stand-up cutouts, some yellow ...

A Song of Sixpence: A Letter a Day Preschool Unit - A through E
http://singingasongofsixpence.blogspot.com/2014/04/a-letter-day-preschool-unit-through-e.html
Wednesday, April 16, 2014. A Letter a Day Preschool Unit - A through E. About our little preschool group, and wanted to share some of the curriculum with you! One thing I like about our curriculum is that it's fairly simple - for most days you can just use paper, crayons, glue, or other things around the house to do all of the activities. It's hands-on and fun, and doesn't require a whole lot of prep time for the moms! But the kids are still learning and having fun, which is the goal. We also stamped, wr...

A Song of Sixpence: October 2013
http://singingasongofsixpence.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 31, 2013. I'll eventually get around to posting pictures of our Halloween costumes that I made, but for now, enjoy a little preview of this fun puppet set I made for a custom order from my shop. I thought it was appropriate to share today! Although some people say "Nightmare Before Christmas" is a Christmas movie, not a Halloween movie, I think it's brilliant marketing to get people to watch it for the whole season! Saturday, October 12, 2013. Like a kid in a candy shop. I'm planning to...

A Song of Sixpence: November 2013
http://singingasongofsixpence.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Friday, November 15, 2013. I recently got multiple custom order requests for the same thing (at about the same time) - dragon puppets in a variety of bright colors! Funny that I got the orders all around the same time, and they were all being used as party favors for kids' birthday parties. (Can't wait for my kids to get old enough to ask why I don't give out awesome themed party favors for their parties…:). Confession: I have actually always dreamed of writing a novel. Maybe I will! I really wish I'd ta...
