Melinda Trips To Turkey — 2011. A Viaggio to the Villages. My Other Travel Blogs. June 17, 2012. In 1992, a dear friend showed me a book. 8220;Have you ever heard of this guy? 8221; she asked. “I think you’ll love him.”. It was a book called, Europe Through the Back Door. His message was that you could travel without trepidation to any European country, undaunted by irrational fears, overwhelming museums, or metro ticket machines. He showed you how. Melinda Trips To Turkey — 2011. A Viaggio to the Villages. My Other Travel Blogs. June 15, 2012. In search of lunch, we walked along the shore to the end of town, checking out the various restaurants lining the water. I swear I was just taking a photo of. Those interesting metal pots on the table…. I was telling the truth…. After perusing places to eat, we decided upon the Gümüscafé. A chalkboard placed near the outdoor seating area pronounced boldly: We Are Probably The Best In The World! Fill in your d...

Melinda Trips To Turkey — 2011. A Viaggio to the Villages. My Other Travel Blogs. June 10, 2012. Castle of St. Peter. The Castle of St. Peter. Was constructed in 1402 by the Knights of St. John atop the ruins of an ancient acropolis. As the prominent landmark of Bodrum, it sprouts several large stone towers visible from any point in the town. In this modern, happening place, the castle’s medieval countenance seems a bit out of place among the jet-setters’ yachts. Sometimes my feet feel like this. Just be...

Melinda Trips To Turkey — 2011. A Viaggio to the Villages. My Other Travel Blogs. June 14, 2012. Alp had told us about a little seaside village just a 20 minute ride away. It sounded like a beautiful spot and would be something different to see. From the bus station we could easily catch a dolmus to the village of Gümüslük. Pronounced “goomooshlook”). The scenery went from this to rural in a few short minutes. Gümüslük is a tiny town on the Bodrum peninsula, hugging the edge of a small round port. Fi...

Melinda Trips To Turkey — 2011. A Viaggio to the Villages. My Other Travel Blogs. As everywhere, Turkey has its street snacks. It is food particular to this part of the world — very similar to what you find in Greece. Most all of it is delicious. Here’s a sample of what we found:. Ears of roasted corn:. Simit is a crispy, crunchy, slightly sweet circle of bread that has been dipped in grape molasses and then coated with sesame seeds. Turks munch on it at all hours of the day. I tried this too. Yum!

This trip we visited four regions: Lazio (Rome), Veneto (Venice, Murano, Burano), Toscana (Siena and other hilltowns), and Lombardia (the northern Lakes region where my family is from). Melinda Trips 2009: Ireland and Italia
Melinda Trips 2009: Ireland and Italia. Gino and His Tin Men. My Other Travel Blogs. November 19, 2010. Finding the airport was a snap, although I won’t pretend I didn’t have to watch the signs carefully. We drove right to the rental car drop-off and turned in the Fiat with no hitches. We easily found our ticket counter, remembering its location from when we had dropped off Gino the week before. As a busy-looking attendant whirled by, she instructed us,. 8220;Don’t get into line yet.”. But at that window...

Melinda Trips 2012: Greece and Italy. It’s All About The Dogs. March 17, 2014 by mbrovelli. We had arranged for a driver to take us to the airport. Donatella had mentioned she would come to see us off and collect the keys on our last morning, but she hadn’t shown up. At 7:45 am we took a last look around the apartment, and leaving the keys on the table, pulled the door tight behind us. She said. I had some blood drawn at the clinic and they were slow. It can’t be! Is he napping AGAIN? As the plane rose i...

Melinda Trips: London and Beyond
Melinda Trips: London and Beyond. My Other Travel Blogs. January 11, 2017. Our bags were organized and all packed up, save for the things we’d need first thing in the morning for our early morning flight. We’d already arranged with our hotel to have a shuttle pick us up and whisk us to the airport. The only thing left was to say our goodbyes to this most amazing city. We ventured out as the evening was barely beginning. Next, it was farewell to the Hagia Sophia, glowing at the far end of the Hippodrome.
