Fictional Snorts - Marshall's Super-Sekrit Clubhouse
http://marshallpayne1.livejournal.com/173869.html
Can you keep a secret? Sep 1st, 2012 at 7:25 PM. In fiction, characters laugh, giggle, chuckle, guffaw, cackle, snigger, chortle, and titter. They also snort. Snort? Yes, I know what a snort is. From Merriam-Webster:. To force air violently through the nose with a rough harsh sound. Even in short fiction, character after character snort. Lately, in what I’ve been reading, fictional characters snort a lot! Snorting is an involuntary action. Can anyone reading this make themselves snort on command? I think...

Whoo-Hoo and Thank You! - shawnam
http://shawnam.livejournal.com/1450.html
Whoo-Hoo and Thank You! Feb 5th, 2010 at 5:06 PM. So, guess who's going to be Editor Guest of Honor at the 2011 World Fantasy Con! I'm so excited and, well, honored, to have been asked. As I said in my first LJ post, I've long looked at the on-line community with trepidation, and avoided most on-line interaction out of a deep-seated sense of self-preservation. I've seen how easy it is to be eviscerated for one small misstatement, or an awkward turn of phrase (Women in Fantasy issue, anyone? That lack of ...

A slushy day in NYC - shawnam
http://shawnam.livejournal.com/522.html
A slushy day in NYC. Jan 8th, 2010 at 4:55 PM. I was able to meet Ellen Datlow for a wonderful lunch at my favorite neighborhood restaurant and I was home by 3:30! So this is blogging? Kind of boring, I think, but if people want to read about their friends' haircuts on Twitter, maybe someone wants to read about my drive into New York and my nice lunch! Stay warm and happy, people! 15 comments Leave a comment. Jan 8th, 2010 10:00 pm (UTC). Jan 8th, 2010 10:31 pm (UTC). Jan 8th, 2010 10:40 pm (UTC). I'll h...

I can't ignore you any longer! - shawnam

I can't ignore you any longer! Jan 7th, 2010 at 1:46 PM. As many of my good friends and colleagues will attest, my overall attitude towards this giant digital community has basically been the equivalent of sticking my fingers in my ears and chanting, Lalala, I can't hear you! What gives me the right to stand (or more accurately, sit) here and say this? So now that I've got a blog (god, I can't believe I'm doing this! ETA: I've been reliably informed, and have even looked it up myself, that my Space of He...

Words from the Romantic Underground. Dec 12th, 2011 at 12:58 PM. I’d like to make a suggestion to undo a lot of that PR damage, and in the same move give you some positive PR that will be all but unassailable by your critics. Mr Bezos, you have demonstrated beyond any doubt that Amazon is both successful and powerful. I hope you’re willing to demonstrate, to your own benefit, that Amazon can be good, too. Forum, I'm conducting a writing clinic. One of the members of the editorial board was quite taken with a story. I told the writer that I'd forward her story for a purchase decision, but I'd like her to revise the story, recasting it into third person limited POV, keeping tightly focused on the female protagonist.
