Researching your English and Welsh Ancestors - Collard Genealogy. Some facts about my. Result of my research. My paternal ancestors came from Exmouth in Devon, England. My great grandfather worked in one of the brickworks in Exmouth. For a short while he took his family to Newport in Monmouthshire Wales (presumably looking for work). My grandfather was born there in 1885. My ancestors bore the name Collard as a middle name from circa 1765 as a result of the birth of an illegitimate child called Thomas.
