Around the Memory Drum: Refreshing Displays

http://memorydrum.blogspot.com/2014/10/refreshing-displays.html

Around the Memory Drum. Thursday, October 23, 2014. I first became a bit of a mild monitor video-phile the days of widespread CRT monitor usage when I discovered that I needed to run monitors with a refresh rate of at least 75Hz and preferably 100Hz to prevent the monitor from inducing a headache. The refresh rate. Warning: these are a result of some notes I've had for a while so some specific details about the state of the art might be dated. The first is an issue which affects audio/visual synchronizat...

Around the Memory Drum: January 2015

http://memorydrum.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Around the Memory Drum. Friday, January 2, 2015. Another interesting aspect of switch over to LCDs from CRTs is the introductions of lag into the display pipe-line.  From what I can tell, this tends to be on the order of magnitude of a frame cycle in duration. There is obviously some wire tranfer lag, some lag due to draw a scene, but now also due to preprocessing the image before pixels begin to display. Posted by Philip Thiem. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The memory chips on a SIMM are typically dynamic RAM (DRAM) chips. An improved form of RAM called Synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) can also be used. Since SDRAM provides a 64 data bit path, it requires at least two SIMMs or a dual in-line memory module (DIMM). SDRAM is widely used in computers; after the original SDRAM, further generations of double data rate RAM have entered the mass market DDR (also known as DDR1), DDR2, DDR3 and DDR4, with the latest generation (DDR4) released in second half of 2014.
