This ap. can be installed on a laptop, desktop, notebook, tablet or smart phone, so get it now, then go here. To download my book. Do this. Butterflie...

Stories and short pieces. Tag Archives: Book reviews. July’s People by Nadine Gordimer. I may have mentioned that I attend a book group. Apparently it is the trendy thing to do but I didn’t know that when I agreed to go. I liked the women involved and I like reading so there was nothing to lose (I also like to drink wine and gin and tonic – not that that influenced my decision). I have just finished July’s People. And was so moved by it that I feel I must laud it here. First novel now available.

Backforth House is an unlikely care home that hides at the end of a residential road, its side butting against a scrubby, rubbishy mound of railway embankment. From the pavement, if you ignore the gawking residents, it is exactly like the rest of the Victorian, terraced street: three houses knocked inappropriately into one, higgledy-piggledy home. 8216;The bank has refused…’. On Gardening | Sue Nicholls

Stories and short pieces. When we moved into our house, the garden, like everywhere else, was in dire need of a makeover. The inside was our priority as it needed new floors, heating, plaster and so on, and to make matters more complicated, the week before we started working on it, Whizz was made redundant. I did have one final attempt to thwart the dog by putting plants in tubs. These I dotted about the flowerbeds and they looked quite nice, albeit they needed watering, which was a pain. The dog...Of co...

Stories and short pieces. The Incident of the Courgette. Funny things happen in life, and I am always keen to see the humour. This can be a bit unfortunate on occasion, but now that I write, I can at least have an unstifled giggle with hindsight. Anyway, we all arrived in our best outfits and sat along a large table. In the middle of one side sat Clive, flanked by Jean, on his right and the manager of another section, on his left. The man did not hear her request and began to walk away, so Jean, in her w...

Stories and short pieces. When I was a teen, still absorbent,. My friend and I would gather,. Our coins and get a magazine. We would sit on a bench – slatted, hard,. Or on a bank, littered with Mars wrappers,. The pages lying across our knees,. Glossy and exciting, promising. Lives we would never live. Perfect bodies and laughing faces,. A feature, not physical, was keen on hygiene. Always dry under your breasts it implored,. And later, I explored with my fingers,. That part of my body, and wondered,.

Stories and short pieces. Walking the Dog in the Chalk Meadow. Damask and canary,. Brushing my legs,. They dance in soft air in their thousands, with devout faces that watch the sun wherever it hangs. Ecstatic worshipers, giving more attention than my small students. I dawdle through humming heat, searching for brave orchids among the tender vetch and yolk-ish buttercups. Butterflies: small, blue, copper, brimstone-yellow,. Dive across my path like dancing petals. Determined to chase the ball. Proudly po...

Stories and short pieces. Education, Im a Dinosaur. I was somewhat surprised after writing my article ‘There’s No Way Out’, to discover that I appear to be a socialist. But when I start to think about education I see that I am a ‘grey area’, a floating voter, a dinosaur. Is that a bad thing? The present system attempts to give all young people the same opportunities. It insists that they all take GCSE’s regardless of their ability. Continue reading Education, Im a Dinosaur.
