Alison's Blog: May 2009
http://meneely.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
My aim is true. Thursday, May 28, 2009. We are getting married! It happened on Sunday night, when we took a drive to Alki Beach in West Seattle after dinner. We went out on the beach just after sunset, and he got down on one knee in the sand! We haven't picked a date or even a location yet (our families are all over the world! But probably within the next year. :). I would post more pictures, but my quota is full for Picasa! Time for me to get off my cloud and start getting ready for work. Monday was spe...

http://meneely.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
My aim is true. Tuesday, June 16, 2009. I haven't really been feeling like blogging lately, but I suppose I should at least post a little something! Rob and I are loving being engaged! It's funny. we knew that we were planning on getting married, eventually. but wow. Being officially engaged is wonderful! We both have been going around telling everyone! Of course, once we got over the initial excitement of the proposal, it became apparent that there is so much to do to plan a wedding. Yikes! Pretty excit...
Alison's Blog: Day of 3 Posts
http://meneely.blogspot.com/2009/05/day-of-3-posts.html
My aim is true. Thursday, May 7, 2009. Day of 3 Posts. Ok, well. technically it is after midnight so this is not the third post of the day. but rather the first post of a new day! I just spent all this time on the internet. Surfing and whatnot. You know, Facebook, playing Mafia Wars, random friends' blogs, Mafia Wars, news websites, more Facebook, more Mafia Wars. And now I am totally depressed. Can I blame it on my circadian rhythms being all out of whack? Happy Nurses Day to our favorite nurse! My Pare...

My aim is true. Thursday, May 7, 2009. I haven't done a random bullet post lately, so I think it is time for another one! I am completely addicted to playing Mafia Wars on Facebook! And now it seems as though I have gotten Andy and Kelly hooked on it, too. :) Hehehe. I just realized that I am off work until next Thursday night. I mean, I knew intellectually that I was on vacation, but I actually just put away my work shoes/bag in the closet. And washed scrubs. and put them away in the dresser! And manage...
Alison's Blog: September 2008
http://meneely.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
My aim is true. Thursday, September 25, 2008. Another week has passed and I have not been good about blogging. I apologize to my loyal reader(s)! I have officially made the transition to night shift. I miss normal circadian rhythms! But so far I've had decent shifts so I guess I can't complain too much. Seattle weather has rapidly turned to fall (highs in the 50s, cloudy, occasional rain showers), so it makes for good sleeping weather, at least. Haha), I thought I would do a quick blog. Sadly, there was ...

The Oxford Comma: Falkirk Wheel
http://themeneelyoxfordcomma.blogspot.com/2008/08/falkirk-wheel.html
Philip and Deb Meneely Summer 2008 Sabbatical. Monday, August 18, 2008. On Saturday we took the train out of Edinburgh to the town of Falkirk to see the world's only boat lift, the Falkirk Wheel. Like everything else, this probably requires a bit of a history lesson. Thanks to Sue Fairman who saw the Falkirk Wheel featured on tv and mentioned it to Deb in an email. We appreciate your comments, and we even respond to them! It was a great part of the Scottish phase of our Oxford Comma. On to Durham!

Philip and Deb Meneely Summer 2008 Sabbatical. Saturday, June 14, 2008. Lunch at 'The Press'. Yesterday we spent the day at Oxford University Press, which is quite impressive. OUP or 'The Press', is the largest university press in the world, employing 27,000 workers worldwide and 1,500 in this building alone. It began printing books here in 1586. we still can't believe that they want to publish Philip's book- don't they know he is from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania? The clattering of the mail slot in our do...

Philip and Deb Meneely Summer 2008 Sabbatical. Saturday, June 28, 2008. It is amazing that none of us was hurt. We were standing by the side of the highway waiting for the bus to bring us back to Oxford from the village of Burford after a day of sightseeing. A car coming the other direction on the highway hit the center barriers for the pedestrian crossing, plowed through both of them (called bollards. Posted by Philip and Deb. Thursday, June 26, 2008. Philip and Deb Meneely Summer 2008 Sabbatical. Saturday, July 12, 2008. Phil’s colleague from Haverford Naomi Koltun-Fromm. College. Each college has a chapel—the one at Christ Church is a cathedral but none of them is very big—with architecture that is often amazing. The beauty is in the details. After our quiet lunch of serious contemplation, we headed to Blackwell’s Books. Posted by Philip and Deb. Friday, July 11, 2008. Ray, Claire and Linda at Blenheim. For one last meal together we chose Qumin.

Philip and Deb Meneely Summer 2008 Sabbatical. Friday, July 4, 2008. Shylock should have appealed his case. At least, that is the consensus of the five of us after watching The Merchant of Venice. We continued to be impressed by the love of flowers here, and Stratford really showed that—lots of gardens, well-tended flower baskets everywhere. The bus trip (or trips since we changed in the tiny village of Chipping Norton) was also interesting. (Deb asked, “What kind of a name is Chipping Norton? It's a sun...

Philip and Deb Meneely Summer 2008 Sabbatical. Saturday, August 9, 2008. It's a rainy, windy Saturday here in Oxford- so we are hunkered down in the apartment watching the Olympics on the BBC. I (Deb) am doing laundry and Philip is poring over the proofs to his textbook. He only just received them yesterday after waiting nearly 3 weeks for them to return from the typesetter- and he must have it all corrected by August 29. Alison, Dad, Shannon, Jill. The Oxford Comma: Rosslyn Chapel
http://themeneelyoxfordcomma.blogspot.com/2008/08/rosslyn-chapel.html
Philip and Deb Meneely Summer 2008 Sabbatical. Saturday, August 16, 2008. Http:/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosslyn Chapel . The chapel was completed in the 1480s, before Columbus came to America. Yet there are clear carvings of corn plants, the leaves of a Trillium plant, and an aloe veraóthree plants that are only found in North America. These lead to legends about the Knights Templar coming to the America in the 14th century, or 100 years before Columbus. . Posted by Philip and Deb.

Philip and Deb Meneely Summer 2008 Sabbatical. Saturday, August 23, 2008. We are home. Our flight Thursday afternoon was delayed at Heathrow for two hours with mechanical problems and many passengers with connecting flights were frantic. But we were calm because we knew where we would be sleeping. Ah, home. There is no place like it (click ruby slippers here). Philip points out the shelf. At the Oxford University Press Bookshop.
