From the Brain of a Mental Farmer. Saint Zita is the patroness of domestic servants. She rests for eternity in the Basilica of San Frediano in Lucca. The church is breathtakingly beautiful, with high arches and frescoes and dark old pews smoothed by centuries of worshipers sliding their length. I found this photograph online and I would give credit to the person who took it if I had a way to find out who the photographer was. The churches of Italy offered me a glimpse into a strange new, very old world.

Evolution. When I began writing this blog in 2010 the subject was local food and small farms. I still like those and will write about them, but find myself wandering in new directions these days. I live near Weaverville, North Carolina in a tiny town that has no center. My husband and I share 22 acres with a couple of cats and an assortment of wildlife.
