There was an error in this gadget. Monday, March 1, 2010. The Cathedral's history goes back to 597AD. In 1170 Archbishop Thomas Becket was murdered in the Cathedral. He was murdered by the king's men because he said he wanted someone to rid him of the Archbishop, and the knights thought he really ment it. Ever since, the Cathedral has attracted thousands of pilgrims, as told famously in Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. It is visited as much today as it ever has been. Posted by Haley R.
