My ties are done in a method called sublimation disperse dye transfer: I work on paper with dyes and fabric crayons, apply several layers of color on each sheet of paper, sometimes collage several sheets together. The last step is to put the paper and cloth into a hot press, where the color is lifted off of the paper and onto the cloth. Each tie costs $100.00 (including shipping and handling). The work on this page is batik, a process in which melted wax is applied to fabric to create white spaces and marks, which can then be made to allow dye to infiltrate, creating cracks and lines of color.
