Im Dezember 2013 haben sich die Meldungen überschlagen, Curiosity fand einen einstigen Süßwassersee (mit allen Mineralen) und MRO hat am Äquator flüssiges Salzwasser an Hängen gefunden. Im März 2015 wurde bekannt gegeben das ein Marsozean mit H2O und HDO (schweres Wasser 6 % schwerer als normales Wasser) am Marsnordpol bis ca. Marsäquator existiert hat.
