Sydney the finale day 4. Today is Pat’s birthday. We are going to Darling Harbour in the morning and then for dinner in Doyles on the Beach. In Watson Bay in the evening. Ferry out and late night bus back! This morning we had good internet and managed to load the photos from Sunday, this afternoon is bad again. uploading at 10Kb/s but freezes as well. It may be overloaded networks as few people are out of bed in Kings Cross at 8.00 am but most are still on their phones etc at 2.00am. Got back on Thursday.

Day 01 Sydney to Wagga Wagga. Nothing to report really and no body drowned. We picked up the Hertz car, late becaue they had no cars the size we ordered and the automtic as they had no manuals. Luggage partly in (very small) boot and partly on back seat. Waiting for the car we had a walk in Hyde Park, the same in name only. Pat took shots of two birds, can any one name them? Day 03 Around Echuca. Decided to drive south to Rushworth, a small town that once had big ambitions. Unfortunately all that is left is a double width High Street planted with Canary Island Palms but there is wildlife. Like so many outback places the ambition disappeared with the gold or the other reason for it being there. Bizarrely, it reminded Derek of the mining village he grew up in; it was established about the same time, for similar reasons with a similar result. Back to freezing motel room and tuc...

Day 04 Echuca to Mildura. From one historic home of the Murray Paddle steamer to another through 400 kilometres of nothing. From Echuca to the nature reserve of Gunbower Island, two black swans and their cygnets the sum total of the visible wild life, no cockatoos on Cockatoo Lagoon. We are beginning to think that the word is out to avoid all UK tourists. Another one horse backwoods town but what a surprise to see advertised on a garage door. At last free off for a walk along the river in warm spring sun.
