Brakes,lines, hoses and diff seals. Left hand rear drum. Lots of oil evident so looks as though the new seals will all come in handy. I am considering what to do with the brake lines and hoses. I am thinking renewal but will leave until later,(thinking of the money! Right hand rear drum. Nice and dry. Still once in 50 year opportunity for full service. Rebound straps are totally u/s. Inspection of the front suspension arm and brake mechanism. Working on my own I elected to drop the crossmember off completely. Utilising a jack to support the centre I removed the four securing bolts to the chassis. Then with some trepidation I lowered and pushed it to one side. (I utilised old blankets and cushions to eliminate any chance of damage. I have taken the front crossmember off and prior to dismantling it has received a high pressure water clean. On the left is my MGB in red soon after purchase in 1996. Although not obvious in photo the paint was not so good. The MGB on the right is a mates same vintage Mk1 1966. He had his resprayed at same time and crazing was very minor on his but still evident. The British Racing Green Dream. I mentioned I was glad the original factory colour was BRG and I was glad to get away from Red (I have a hidden hatred for red, being a Manchester City fan). I like this page. You liked this page. Removal of the half shaft. After having removed the hub flange screw, the half shaft can be eased out. I remembered to place a rag on the floor to catch any remaining oil. Removal of the bearing carrier. Carefully bend or tap back the locking tab. Now the retaining nut can be removed. two thoughts. 1 you probably won't have a spanner this size. 2 Retaining nuts are both right and left hand treaded depending which side of car. I like this page. Welcome to restore my MGB blog. I am needing to replace the brake pads all round, this also means having the drums and discs skimmed. I also intend having the rear springs reset. While I am not ready for this cash flow wise I have been busying myself with cutting out the drivers floor pan. This can be seen in the body repair section. Back into restoration mode after a short break. Not really I have been fiddling with bits and pieces, also waiting on ordered parts arriving. Star date 24 January 2014.
