Lewis Family in Nepal: July 2011

Lewis Family in Nepal. Wednesday, July 6, 2011. Christianity, Freedom of Choice and Democracy. OpEd in the Republica Newspaper, July 7, 2011 by Sradda Thapa. It is disappointing when someone older and hopefully wiser, an editor even, can be so vindictive and distasteful. It is demeaning to the youth in this country and those that seek to embrace (and not just tolerate) differences in beliefs and opinions when such writers pit one group of Nepalis against another. I meet readers and friends today who tell...

Lewis Family in Nepal: January 2010
http://lewisfamilyinnepal.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Lewis Family in Nepal. Thursday, January 21, 2010. Tiarna and Jenaya have begun school at Kathmandu International Study Centre (KISC). They had a 2.5 hours of assessment tests covering the "three R's"(breaks in between) and have been placed into Grade 5 and 3 respectively. The school is around 10-15 minutes walk and around 5-10 minute drive. that tells you something of the traffic issues here. As you can see it is rather cold here at the moment. The girls have thermal singlets on as well! There were arou...

Lewis Family in Nepal: March 2010
http://lewisfamilyinnepal.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Lewis Family in Nepal. Saturday, March 20, 2010. I visited the Khokana Leprosy Colony in which ADRA Nepal has been working for many years. There are many positive initiatives here including income generation as well as continued medical support. There are many children of former leprosy patients that continue to live here as there is no other place to live for them. These residents could tell some stories. If only I could speak Nepali. This lady has specially made shoes that help her to walk around.

Lewis Family in Nepal: February 2010
http://lewisfamilyinnepal.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Lewis Family in Nepal. Thursday, February 11, 2010. View from Our Roof. Today was the clearest air that we have seen in Kathmandu. It was raining two days ago and snowing in the mountains. The newspapers stated that some places received over a foot of snow which has not happened in 4 or 5 years in most places. (The WFP are feeding 1.2 million people in Nepal currently) In the Kathmandu valley the rain has cleared the air so we can actually see the mountains. View to the west. Wednesday, February 10, 2010.

http://lewisfamilyinnepal.blogspot.com/2010/05/everest-view-hotel.html
Lewis Family in Nepal. Friday, May 7, 2010. At the end of March a friend of ours, Michael Lillioja, invited us to join him on a helicopter trip to the Everest View Hotel at Namche Bazaar. He and his daughter Hannah, were going to fly up to Everest Base Camp while we remained at the Everest View Hotel and then join them for breakfast when they returned. (At Kalapathar, approximately17,000 ft, the helicopter cannot carry more than two passengers and the rotors need to keep turning! Thanks, Mike and Hannah.
