My story

Sunday, April 17, 2011. Finding love at the footy. One of them barked. I later overheard that his name was Luke, and the more beer he drank the less likeable he became. The other two guys mumbled and grumbled agreement. One of the girls turned to respond, she had the slight twang of an American accent. Amid the smell of beer, meat pies and chips (so cliche, but really, that is all you can buy at the footy! A good-bye with regret? My story: Erkaa's Ger

http://www.miapng.blogspot.com/2010/10/erkaas-ger.html

Saturday, October 30, 2010. The first night there were six of us sleeping in Erkaa's ger. Me in one bed (boss! This blog started as a way to share news and photos with family and friends when I was living in Papua New Guinea and Mongolia. Now after 13 years of living overseas it has become a place where I sometimes share news, photos and personal ramblings with any family or friends who are interested in what goes on in my head. Places I like to visit. The Big Picture - great photographs.

My story: March 2011

http://www.miapng.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, March 26, 2011. Starting from the end. A tourist in a cafe targeting expatriates who forgot her pen so is poking out these words with a single finger on her iphone. Maybe a quiet smile, a slight sigh, a little crease of worry at the corner of an eye. My ears are sore. We have started our descent into Incheon airport, where I have nine hours of wandering tedium. This morning I watched people around me at the airport. What loss do they carry that I can’t see? Thursday, March 17, 2011. Each of us ...

My story: Elder's Day - Songino

http://www.miapng.blogspot.com/2010/10/elders-day-songino.html

Saturday, October 30, 2010. Elder's Day - Songino. The salt in the milk tea stings my throat. I nibble fresh curds offered to me and we all hang out together. I imagine the gossip and stories being exchanged. The old flames seeing each other again, or old enemies avoiding each other. The old guy opposite me pulls a vodka bottle out of his deel.stuff this milk tea, at my age life is too short! Places I like to visit. The Big Picture - great photographs. View my complete profile. My story: Making memories - goodbye Mongolia

http://www.miapng.blogspot.com/2011/02/making-memories-goodbye-mongolia.html

Saturday, February 12, 2011. Making memories - goodbye Mongolia. It has been just over two months since I left Mongolia. The days pass, regardless of how I feel. I am busy setting up a new house, getting the girls into school, re-entering the bureaucracy of being an Australian citizen. My girls are getting used to just being other blond girls among many. The past two months have been a blur really. Places I like to visit. The Big Picture - great photographs. View my complete profile.

Lewis Family in Nepal: Far West Nepal ADRA Trip

http://lewisfamilyinnepal.blogspot.com/2010/05/far-west-nepal-adra-trip.html

Lewis Family in Nepal. Friday, May 7, 2010. Far West Nepal ADRA Trip. ADRA Nepal currently have a project funded by ECHO through UNFPA running Reproductive Health Camps in the Far west of Nepal. The mobile camps spend 5 days in remote areas and treat all types of conditions but the main function is to refer women who have Uterine Prolapse to Nepalgunj Medical Teaching College Hospital for surgery. I went with a team from UNFPA and ECHO to do a monitoring trip to Bhajang. Nearly all of the houses have a s...

Lewis Family in Nepal: July 2011

http://lewisfamilyinnepal.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Lewis Family in Nepal. Wednesday, July 6, 2011. Christianity, Freedom of Choice and Democracy. OpEd in the Republica Newspaper, July 7, 2011 by Sradda Thapa. It is disappointing when someone older and hopefully wiser, an editor even, can be so vindictive and distasteful. It is demeaning to the youth in this country and those that seek to embrace (and not just tolerate) differences in beliefs and opinions when such writers pit one group of Nepalis against another. I meet readers and friends today who tell...

Lewis Family in Nepal: January 2010

http://lewisfamilyinnepal.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Lewis Family in Nepal. Thursday, January 21, 2010. Tiarna and Jenaya have begun school at Kathmandu International Study Centre (KISC). They had a 2.5 hours of assessment tests covering the "three R's"(breaks in between) and have been placed into Grade 5 and 3 respectively. The school is around 10-15 minutes walk and around 5-10 minute drive. that tells you something of the traffic issues here. As you can see it is rather cold here at the moment. The girls have thermal singlets on as well! There were arou...

Lewis Family in Nepal: March 2010

http://lewisfamilyinnepal.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Lewis Family in Nepal. Saturday, March 20, 2010. I visited the Khokana Leprosy Colony in which ADRA Nepal has been working for many years. There are many positive initiatives here including income generation as well as continued medical support. There are many children of former leprosy patients that continue to live here as there is no other place to live for them. These residents could tell some stories. If only I could speak Nepali. This lady has specially made shoes that help her to walk around.

Lewis Family in Nepal: February 2010

http://lewisfamilyinnepal.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Lewis Family in Nepal. Thursday, February 11, 2010. View from Our Roof. Today was the clearest air that we have seen in Kathmandu. It was raining two days ago and snowing in the mountains. The newspapers stated that some places received over a foot of snow which has not happened in 4 or 5 years in most places. (The WFP are feeding 1.2 million people in Nepal currently) In the Kathmandu valley the rain has cleared the air so we can actually see the mountains. View to the west. Wednesday, February 10, 2010.

Lewis Family in Nepal: Everest View Hotel

http://lewisfamilyinnepal.blogspot.com/2010/05/everest-view-hotel.html

Lewis Family in Nepal. Friday, May 7, 2010. At the end of March a friend of ours, Michael Lillioja, invited us to join him on a helicopter trip to the Everest View Hotel at Namche Bazaar. He and his daughter Hannah, were going to fly up to Everest Base Camp while we remained at the Everest View Hotel and then join them for breakfast when they returned. (At Kalapathar, approximately17,000 ft, the helicopter cannot carry more than two passengers and the rotors need to keep turning! Thanks, Mike and Hannah.
