I ran a 5k for the first time in nearly 20 years this morning, at the Polar Bear 5k in Wash Park. It's been about 2 1/2 years since I've run a race of any. Distance, and that one was a little longer. So I wasn't sure what to expect. Anyhow, 18:31. 4th overall. Good times. Have the goal of getting down into low-17s and maybe high 16s by year end. Seems kinda ambitious, but I know a guy.

This past weekend was my first planned Back to Back session. 16.5 miles Saturday followed by 17.0 miles on Sunday. I've gone into longer runs with more fear and concern than this weekend. For me, a four or five hour training run generates some anxiety (unless I have the opportunity to do it in the mountains! Why would such heart-rate accelerations be a warning sign for overtraining?

I am on the quest to nab all 48 New Hampshire 4kers within a short three year period. This was also my first trip solo into the Whites. I've done a little solo adventure running and camping before, the most epic for was a 40 mile weekend in the great Smoky Mountains on Memorial Day weekend 2012. Off the path cairn.
