Random breathing | Purple Running

Sally Easton's journey to the London Marathon 2013 and beyond. Look at all that air to breathe. Breathing seems to have come up a lot in various conversations recently, and magazine articles. My last visit to the magical Michaela. For my shoulder got me thinking, as she was talking to me about breathing to help my shoulder. It seems the shoulder is related to lots of other bits the diagonally opposite hip for example, interestingly it is my weaker leg side. Spooky, maybe she’s right! I tried this ‘deep b...

What does a runner look like? | Purple Running

Sally Easton's journey to the London Marathon 2013 and beyond. What does a runner look like? Ready for the London marathon 2013. A growing handful of people are telling me I look like a runner. I’ve so far failed to explore what they mean by that. I must challenge the next person (if there is one) who makes such a comment. Do runners have a particular physiognomy? Watching the World Championships in Moscow you’d have to say not. There are lots of different shapes and sizes out there. August 20, 2013.

Bournemouth marathon – the false start | Purple Running

Sally Easton's journey to the London Marathon 2013 and beyond. Bournemouth marathon the false start. Not doing enough of this. Well, I did enter the Bournemouth marathon, which runs on Oct 6. In my defence, I have been a bit pre-occupied with swimming. On which subject it’s all gone to my head literally – I’m learning tumble turns now. Future post. Last session was tough, really tough. My hips hurt. That’s a first. I’m assuming it’s because I was trying to run faster. My ticking over has involved sourcin...

Effort – 1, ability – 0 | Purple Running

Sally Easton's journey to the London Marathon 2013 and beyond. Effort 1, ability 0. I imagine the slightly sardonic, droll tone of the football scores announcer on the telly. And it’s not as bad the headline suggests. This is a post about a positive learning! As a swimming technique, relaxing was never really going to work for me, fearful of drowning, panicking in water, unable to breathe, even with my head above water, without hyperventilating. But I said at the time. RPE) had anything to do with swimmi...

PurpleRunning – Sally Easton's journey to the London Marathon 2013 … and beyond …. Pink is not the colour. February 21, 2014 · 11:46 am. As ready as I’ll ever be. It’s been a while since I posted. Been a bit busy finishing writing a book. My first book. Hopefully not my last, though it’s been quite a journey in itself. I raced the Thames Trot 50. On February 1. I ran 45 miles. That seemed to deserve its own paragraph! The race was tough. No understatement. It hurt. In the end the 45 miles took me 8.5...

PurpleRunning – Sally Easton's journey to the London Marathon 2013 … and beyond …. GSR – not gunshot residue. Pink is not the colour →. November 4, 2013 · 5:00 am. Silva Runner 550 lumens head torch – a review. This year, I’ve been waiting and waiting for the magazines (hard copy or online versions) to review head torches ahead of the nights drawing in. But to no avail. I haven’t seen a review anywhere. Predictably its first outing was accompanied by my bicycle headlight. Despite the lumen count, it’...

PurpleRunning – Sally Easton's journey to the London Marathon 2013 … and beyond …. June 30, 2014 · 4:27 pm. Trail de Sancerre – route. Well, so much has happened since my (first) ultra on Feb 1. The pain in my hip didn’t really go away. Not for a long time. It’s now five months, and a long, really constructive, journey later, and my hip is better. I’ll back track on that process learning to run later. But first, the Trail de Sancerre. What a glorious setting for a trail. Sancerre is pretty town on a ...

Friday, 6 May 2016. Ugh, you idiot! Despite lecturing myself about layering on the speed gradually, I've gone and rinsed myself during a 5k-ish race, and strained an Achilles. Idiot! OK, so I was VERY happy with the time *grin*. A relay leg of 4.76k. In 16:32 equates to a sub 17:20 5k, and that's sooner than I thought I'd get there. And look at the great style too! In Winchester. Michaela confirmed that a sudden jump in distance, speed or even incline, will do the damage, but that in my case there wa...
