This page shows some of the other work made including some of the older pieces. Work using a variety of mediums and materials is shown here. The reverse painted acrylic pieces like ‘Ever Queen Revelations’, ‘Ephemeral Grey Pantheism’ and ‘Peacock Butterfly as Landscape’ change as sunlight passes through them and previously invisible letters and forms painted in varnish cast shadows onto their backgrounds. Michael Dix is a contemporary artist and designer based in Dundee, Scotland. Having studied Interior and Environmental Design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, he graduated in 1998. Since then Michael has successfully launched his own Interior and Architectural Services practice, DIX Design. Michael has designed everything from staircases made entirely of glass to his own apartment in the engine room of an old jute mill.

These original 19th century etchings form a 150 year link to vastly different times in Scottish history. The idealised scenes of ancient Scottish castles and ruins have new hyper-real interventions added to them. Romanticism present in the 19th century scenes belie the violent pasts of these ancient buildings. Please click on images to view artworks.

A white background is often present in these paintings. This serves to add both mystery and infinite space. White space allows fine shadow work to be explored and suggested. Oversized, giant pollinators also carefully interact with twisted, classically proportioned Scottish landmarks. The altered scale of each pollinator against the skewed architectural element, suggests a sense of power and movement within the work. Each title references specific places within the maps under.
