My art is deeply personal, based on the memories, nostalgia, and emotions of an eclectic life. This involved political activism, visiting 60 countries, living in North America, Iran and Singapore and running an international business. My recent work has focused on abstractions of images from recent explorations in the Antarctic, Northern Finland, the Atlas mountains in Morocco and Scotland’s outer islands. I blame it all on Gavin Maughfling, an inspirational artist and tutor at Putney School of Art and Design. On retirement I joined his class on oil painting and was hooked in three lessons. A collector and avid gallery visitor, I had never painted or drawn, not even at school but then I journeyed from Putney to a Foundation at Chelsea and then Wimbledon for a Fine Art degree. Welcome to my web site which I hope you enjoy. My painting addresses contemporary issues with themes related to the environment, human rights and politics in general and is fundamentally experiential and autobiographical. What links these themes is the notion of wildernesses, urban, rural, environmental and political. Mainly abstract, my work uses a variety of mediums and surfaces in the quest to explore the essence of my subject matter. The images shown here are a sample from each of my portfolios.
