Michael Frye Photography Blog: Day of the Dead
http://michaelfryephotography.blogspot.com/2009/11/day-of-dead.html
Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Day of the Dead. Last night my wife Claudia and I attended the Day of the Dead celebration in Hornitos. A tiny town in the Sierra foothills. The Stellar Gallery. Of Oakhurst hosted a reception in town for a Day-of-the-Dead-themed exhibit featuring work by many talented artists, including our friends Penny Otwell. For this image I left the shutter open for three minutes as the processioners marched up the hill, their candles forming a stream of light. Posted by Michael Frye.
Michael Frye Photography Blog: Yosemite Fall Color Update
http://michaelfryephotography.blogspot.com/2009/10/yosemite-fall-color-update.html
Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Yosemite Fall Color Update. This photograph of oaks underneath El Capitan was made two years ago. There's still hope that the oaks could look like that this year! It's cold and windy tonight, and some leaves are dropping. There are likely to be more bare maples and cottonwoods tomorrow, but I don't think the wind will affect the oaks and dogwoods. I'll post another update as soon as I get a spare moment. Posted by Michael Frye. Note: Only a member of this blog may post a comment.
Michael Frye Photography Blog: A November Peak for Yosemite Color?
http://michaelfryephotography.blogspot.com/2009/11/november-peak-for-yosemite-color.html
Monday, November 2, 2009. A November Peak for Yosemite Color? The color in Yosemite Valley has continued to change, but slowly. The oaks, cottonwoods, and dogwoods are still not at peak. The early wave of maples is mostly gone, yet some are still partially green. With warm weather expected throughout the coming week, the second color peak in the Valley may not arrive until this weekend or even later. Posted by Michael Frye. Monday, July 19, 2010. Waving the Red Flags. I had another opportunity this past weekend to shoot some more drum corps. There was a drum corps show in Corona, CA on Friday night and another, on Saturday night, at Paramount High School. In this case, I finally was able to fit the guy in the frame entirely. You can see how the light paints just the edges off him, almost like a highlight maker. Stay tuned, as I have a lot more examples coming of the benefits of shooting with the sun backlighting the subject.

Saturday, June 26, 2010. I went back to this spot I have been checking out lately, since in San Diego, during June, we have what is called "June Gloom." Which is, we get a lot of marine layer, the "gloom," during this month. Now, I have been scoping this spot and looking for unique or interesting subjects to compliment the carrier. This time, I found that the sails worked nicely here. Posted by Charles Frey. Tuesday, June 22, 2010. Tomcat and Her Sidewinder. Well, hopefully this image shows why. So, this...

Sunday, February 20, 2011. During the months of February thru April, I am the official photographer for the WinterGuard Association of Southern California (WGASC). Basically winterguard is colorguard shows held indoors, usually in high school gymnasiums, during the winter season. Most of the performers are high school, middle school, and some collegiate. Pretty simple explanation, eh? Posted by Charles Frey. Thursday, February 17, 2011. On my way back, last Fall, after my trip up the Eastern Sierra Sceni...

Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Just got back from a few days trip into Arizona and one of the obvious spots to visit was the Grand Canyon National Park. This was my second visit here. There is a lot to see here and it might not seem so, if you just visit the south rim. Shooting from just the rim, it is very easy to have one photo look just like another. So you have to find different angles, interesting subjects, etc. I always find it interesting how some trees can find the most odd spots to grow. I'm still tryin...

Sunday, January 18, 2009. On the way back from the weekend Monterey trip, we had to stop in Carmel. I was thinking of my east coast friends while walking through the streets. Betty, Rebecca and Vicki would love staying, dining and people watching here. It is an arty town, full of rules and regulations on how buildings must look. As frustrating as that may be for some business owners, it makes visiting Carmel like going to a very special place. Carmel by the Sea. Saturday, January 17, 2009. Was down Highw...

http://carolsimages.blogspot.com/2009/09/old-fashioned-4th-of-july-at-stow-house.html
Thursday, September 24, 2009. Old Fashioned 4th of July at the Stow House. Stow House for the Old Fashioned 4th of July is always a. Fun event. They usually have a steam. Up of some of the old farm machinery. Freshly painted tactors, vintage cars, people dressed to fit the period and music. Across the street from the restored Goleta Depot building are a few of the lemon groves, much of the events have some historical root in the lemon growing industry.and of course a lot of lemonade is served.

Sunday, March 22, 2009. Wildflower season in California is ruled by the weather. Plans for this weekend included a trip to Sutter Creek to see the daffodils. It did not include the winter storm with the rains, wind and low snow level, oh well. The Tidy Tips against the Goldfields would just have to do. There were some tiny Lupines and Blue Dicks waving in the wind with the Fiddle Necks. I did find some flowers to shoot, but spent most of the time chatting with Lynne Glazer. I headed back toward home on H...

Friday, December 31, 2010. I took a trip during a soggy, rainy day in Southern California, up to the Getty Center, in Los Angeles, California. I couldn't believe how many people were there that day. I guess it was the many out-of-town visitors here for the college bowl games. It was gray most of the day and it was a natural idea to convert it to a black-and-white photo. I processed this with some high contrast and exposed it just a tad on the bright side, as to knock out the clouds and most of the ba...
