What's in my head. Saturday, May 30, 2009. Team Seattle began raising funds for Children’s Hospital as a result of team founder, Don Kitch’s desire to see motorsport contribute and be more than just a sport. He wanted to use racing as a means to support a charitable concern. 12 Years at Daytona. If history is any predictor, Team Seattle’s effort at Le Mans in 2009 will bring excitement on the track and significant contributions to Children’s Hospital. North Beach: THE DAY BEFORE THE RACE

What's in my head. Saturday, June 13, 2009. THE DAY BEFORE THE RACE. Friday, June 12, 10:21am, Le Mans, France. As we wait for the car to take our drivers to the parade, the TV cameras stream into the tent. It’s like a river, never ending, always in motion and yet always the same. Incessant, and yet he remains calm. Now for bed, as tomorrow is race day and I have no idea what to expect other than that I will, before it's over, be very very tired. Dang, this is exciting! 4Cats Art Cafe: Wayne Thiebaud
http://4catsartcafe.blogspot.com/2010/01/wayne-thiebaud_9831.html
Art Conversation, Community, and Cake. Sunday, January 31, 2010. I went to hear Wayne Thiebaud speak in San Francisco a couple of years ago. At the time, I was showing my work at Paul Thiebaud - his son's - gallery. The talk was at the Herbst Auditorium, one in a series of talks organized by Wendy Lesser, editor of the Threepenny Review, who also interviewed Mr. Thiebaud. One of the best things he said that night was about the physicality of art. "The art department should be next to the gym! In my opini...

Art Conversation, Community, and Cake. Wednesday, July 29, 2009. The 20th-century painter Philip Guston said that "In the end, there is only Rembrandt". In his book,. Michael Taylor attempts to get at what makes Rembrandt's portraits so vividly, palpably human. He pins his theory on the nose. I am that much more interested to find out. 4Cats Art Cafe: Mary Heilmann: Tell, don't Ask
http://4catsartcafe.blogspot.com/2009/10/mary-heilmann-tell-dont-ask.html
Art Conversation, Community, and Cake. Saturday, October 31, 2009. Mary Heilmann: Tell, don't Ask. This week the Guggenheim held its Art Awards ceremony, and the Artist of the Year was Mary Heilmann. . I'm enjoying exploring her work. It ranges in approach and concept, but even her most hard-edged, geometric paintings are executed with a painterly vigor. Instead of asking "Is this okay? Did I do it right? Heilmann tells us "This is how it is.". Here is Mary Heilmann with "Two-Lane Blacktop".
4Cats Art Cafe: Up close - really close - at the Prado
http://4catsartcafe.blogspot.com/2009/06/prado-on-google-earth.html
Art Conversation, Community, and Cake. Thursday, June 25, 2009. Up close - really close - at the Prado. Seeing the details of Durer's self portrait down to the individual hairs that make up each curl is thrilling. And it is quite fun to get a virtual sense of the museum itself. Gets that travel bug itching. Below is a short video of the making of the images and how the feature looks in Google Earth (for a larger image, watch it here. Art Conversation, Community, and Cake. Thursday, June 11, 2009. Book review: Art, chess and murder. A 500-year old murder, that is, with a young art restorer bent on solving the mystery she uncovers while working on a 15th-century Flemish painting. Here's a blog review. Of The Flanders Panel . By Arturo Perez-Reverte. . I came across the review on Wordpress - the other. Here is Van Eyck's famously symbol-laden painting of the same era:. Art Conversation, Community, and Cake. Thursday, August 20, 2009. Vermeer in Vancouver, but not for long! There's still time to catch the show of Dutch paintings featuring Vermeer at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Well worth a road trip, ferry ride, or train trek. Vermeer, Rembrandt, and the Golden Age of Dutch Art. Masterpieces from the Rijksmuseum. May 10 - September 13. Here's a coincidence: just this morning I posted about my own painting called Love Letter (To Mondrian) on my website journal.

Art Conversation, Community, and Cake. Wednesday, June 10, 2009. On Sunday, Sue Danielson, Joan Cox, Peter and Jillian Hensley and I sat around my long table spread with books and postcards that related, obviously or obliquely, to narrative in art, drinking coffee and munching carrot cake. From the get-go, the ideas just flew. After some discussion she surprised herself by musing that for one thing, perhaps the reason she saw only white was because. More expansion. More coffee. We continued, engrossed, n...
