Three Sheeps To The Wind: SOAR 2011
http://threesheeps.blogspot.com/2011/10/soar-2011.html
Three Sheeps To The Wind. Sunday, October 16, 2011. On October 1 I left for New Hampshire to go see friends I don't get to see very often and learn some new things and also meet new friends. This year was different because this year I was a mentor at SOAR. There was the washing and the packaging and the labeling oh my! And then it was time to leave and I was a bit nervous. Who brought me some British Wensleydale! Who is coming to teach in June and Sara Lamb. Who is coming to teach this week! Barry Schach...

Three Sheeps To The Wind: October 2011
http://threesheeps.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Three Sheeps To The Wind. Monday, October 31, 2011. Yep It's here. The day of the year that I hate the most. Too scary. I don;t like it. But I sprayed the kid's hair black cause Harry Potter has black hair you know. I took the photos and went up to hide in my room while Lousmith takes the kids out to beg for candy and Chelsea hands out the treats. Ryan is Harry Potter and Maggie is Luna Lovegood. This is Maggie's pumpkin. Two faces and a bit of yarn hair. Now bring on November 1. Links to this post.

As the Whorl Spins: September 2013

Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Support Your Local Artist. Please. If you are reading this blog, you probably already know that I am a fibre artist. While I have spent the last several years focussing more on the educational side of my art, I am, at heart, an artist first. I live in a relatively remote community, Fort McMurray, in Northern Alberta, where we are 4.5 hours from anything connected to the fibre arts- materials, classes, guilds. Artist to lead their celebration of Alberta. This is why the Albe...

As the Whorl Spins: Labels
http://whorlspins.blogspot.com/2015/02/labels.html
Monday, February 02, 2015. How do you label yourself? We all put labels on ourselves. Mother, architect, artist, nurse, accountant, teacher. Gay, straight, black, white, Christian, Muslim. Smart, sexy, socially awkward, efficient, funny, stressed. Sometimes we combine these labels, as in "stressed Christian accountant" or "efficient gay mother". But what happens when those labels change? When your label changes from "wife" to "divorcee", from "doctor" to "retiree", from "general manager" to "CEO"? I did ...

As the Whorl Spins: June 2015
http://whorlspins.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 10, 2015. Image shamelessly stolen from RawForBeauty's Facebook page.). It's been a while. You see, I've kind of been going though some stuff. Heavy-duty stuff. Chronic pain, serious medications, physical impairment, crippling existential angst. You know, stuff nobody wants to deal with. Ever. Because I was afraid. Afraid that no one would read this blog anymore if I wrote whiny posts about how much rheumatoid arthritis hurts and how it is changing my life every day. And, you know what?

As the Whorl Spins: January 2014
http://whorlspins.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Friday, January 31, 2014. I am a Master Spinner. What does that mean? But it also means so much more. It means that I have taken the time to think not only about how to make yarn, but why to do it that way. It means that I have read and studied the works of others, drawing lessons from their work, then applying it to my own. It means I have made mistakes and learned how to correct them. It means I have learned to think critically and independently. I recently stumbled across this post. I spent last weeke...

Thursday, December 11, 2014. A Christmas Without Knitting. I have been knitting for 30 years. I have been knitting Christmas gifts for 29 years. Or, rather, I have knit Christmas gifts for the past 28 years. This year, for the first time in over a quarter-century, I am not knitting a single gift. But not this year. A puppet show. I was rolling nicely along on the gifts, with more in the planning stages. Then my. In human life depends upon having opposable. Anemia, bursitis in one hip, advanced osteoarthr...

As the Whorl Spins: Fibre Week and Beyond
http://whorlspins.blogspot.com/2015/07/fibre-week-and-beyond.html
Thursday, July 02, 2015. Fibre Week and Beyond. Another Fibre Week at Olds College has come and gone, and once again, I have lived to tell the tale. I'm not going to say nothing hurt or that I didn't come home absolutely exhausted, but I did manage to drive there, shop, teach and visit, then drive home with stops to pick up furniture on the way. Much fibre was purchased. Many friends were hugged. I got to see the fashion show, which included this SAORI piece I made. The beds were hard and the food was ab...

As the Whorl Spins: New Stories
http://whorlspins.blogspot.com/2014/09/new-stories.html
Thursday, September 25, 2014. It's been a while again. I know I haven't been the most consistent or prolific blogger, but, even for me, four months is a long time. It's not that I haven't had plenty of adventures, or that I don't have long, rambling stories to tell. In fact, I've had a wonderful summer, filled with travel and gardening and family and friends. I even sat down to write several times, but I stopped. But this past month I have realized that I do. I had put my stories in a box. They were ...
