Michelle in Mozambique

Sunday, March 17, 2013. So after a 7 month hiatus, I suppose it's time to get back to blogging. I did indeed extend my Peace Corps service by 6 months until June 2013, so after a trip home over Christmas I was back in Mozambique! The trip home at Christmas was everything I dreamed it would be. Francelino came home with me over the holidays which was amazing. We had a great trip with lots of firsts for him: first time on an airplane, traveling out of the country, seeing snow, SKIING! I was a happy girl.

Michelle in Mozambique: December 2011

http://michelleinmozambique.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, December 13, 2011. Things I can't wait to do in 72 hours. Things I plan to do in the United States while I am home:. Use a washing machine and dryer! Heat up some food in a microwave. Take a long, hot shower. Go skiing—pray for snow for me! Dry my hair with a hair dryer. Wash dishes in a sink with running water, or even better in a dishwasher. Eat ice cream (I'm not going to go farther into other foods that I'm craving because this list could go on forever). Go to the movies! Most volunteers don...

Wednesday, February 1, 2012. They also had a dress, gold necklace, and gold earrings for the bride to be, a full suit with hat, shoes, and cane included for the bride's brother, capulanas and other clothing for the bride and her mother, several cases of soda and beer, at least 10 liters of wine, a chicken, a goat, and some homemade liquor. It was quite the event! Enjoy the pictures of the event! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Singing under the Southern Cross. Things to “soak up”……. View my complete profile.

Michelle in Mozambique: August 2012

http://michelleinmozambique.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 15, 2012. Yesterday, I was headed into Xai-Xai on a chapa and an Asian man entered at one point on the way. There are a good number of Chinese, Japanese, or Korean people here working in Mozambique. After about 15 minutes I realized that a man in the front row was trying to talk to him and basically harassing him in the process: “Hey China! Why you have no car? In China car cost 2 dolla! 8221; I realized after a bit that this man also didn’t speak any Portuguese. It is spoken within Fra...

Michelle in Mozambique: October 2011

http://michelleinmozambique.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Friday, October 21, 2011. I watch the nightly telenovela on TV with Francelino every night, and I hate when we miss it. I have gotten used to eating rice with every meal and having the same food day after day. I think it would be weird to sleep in a bed without a mosquito net on it and taking a real shower will be pretty strange after 2 a day bucket baths for the last 13 months. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Michelle in Mozambique: Happy Children's Day!

http://michelleinmozambique.blogspot.com/2012/06/happy-childrens-day.html

Friday, June 1, 2012. I think my parents used to say that every day was Children's Day, and thinking about all of the opportunities that many kids have in the U.S. growing up compared to kids here, I'll take that answer). I'm getting really excited for it! Yesterday was Tobacco and Drug Awareness Day so my JUNTOS group presented a skit and dance for our school. They did a GREAT job! Working with them is really fun and usually a bit more interesting than just teaching classes. Because some of the cheating...

Life in Moz: Things to “soak up”……

http://audrey-in-africa.blogspot.com/2012/11/things-to-soak-up.html

Friday, November 9, 2012. Things to “soak up”……. Walking to the market this morning, I made a conscious effort to notice as many things about my village as I could that I don’t want to forget. The sticks meticulously pounded into the hard dirt to form a simple fence around a house or a tree. The fact that piglets are probably some of the cutest animals that will quickly turn into the ugliest grown ones. The packs of half clothed criancas. The primary school kids in their blue uniforms, carrying a 5-liter...

Home Is Where the Heart Is

Home Is Where the Heart Is. Thursday, May 17, 2012. Wednesday, May 16, 2012. Blaise has shown some increased interest in Knights and Castles as of late, and we are lucky enough to have these things in our backyard so we started to take advantage! We've already taken 3 trips to nearby castles (about 30 minutes away) in the past few months. We took a family outing, one with good friends and another when my girlfriend Michelle from home was visiting. Blaise is becoming a bit of an expert :). We went back to...

Wednesday, August 24, 2011. Vinyasa and Lou Ferrigno. Yesterday I was feeling a little sick of running, feeling a little more adventurous: "why not try a yoga class? So I went with my roommate Lindsay, thinking ok this won't be too bad, but I've only done it once. Keep in mind that was back in college and I giggled the whole time because I was looking at the row of football players in the front trying to do the moves wondering "did coach make them do this or is it a dare? This is your first time? So need...
