Illustrated Gratitude: The Evolution of an Elephant
http://illustratedgratitude.blogspot.com/2011/04/evolution-of-elephant.html
Thursday, April 28, 2011. The Evolution of an Elephant. This is (I think) the finished version of my elephant painting. Truth be told I may tweak it several times in the next few months as nerves about showing it in public begin to sit in. Thought I would show the painting in stages just to demonstrate how terrifying the beginning and clumsy stages can be. At this point I tell myself I should not be allowed to spend money on art supplies or even hold a brush. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). 160;I kno...

Illustrated Gratitude: What's Been Going On?
http://illustratedgratitude.blogspot.com/2013/11/whats-been-going-on.html
Tuesday, November 5, 2013. What's Been Going On? Well, What HAS been going on? A lot, but there isn't much to show for it. I'm taking three studio classes, beginning painting, beginning ceramics, and beginning sculpture. None of these classes feels like a beginner classe. Learning lots, working lots. This is my first ever oil painting. A still-life (obviously) using only black and white paint. No pre-sketch, just diving in. I have a couple of sculptures I wouldn't mind posting but I need to take a photo ...

Illustrated Gratitude: Art in the Park
http://illustratedgratitude.blogspot.com/2013/04/art-in-park.html
Friday, April 12, 2013. Art in the Park. Just finished two paintings this evening. Here's the first. Don't know if I should call it Faith or The Clown. The quote says "Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark" by Rabindranath Tagore. I like birds. They make me happy. You know, except in real life. This is painted on roofing felt, or tarpaper. Here it is framed:. Getting ready to head out to the Goodman Museum in Tyler. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Illustrated Gratitude: Why I Painted Hands For My Self Portrait
http://illustratedgratitude.blogspot.com/2013/12/why-i-painted-hands-for-my-self-portrait.html
Sunday, December 22, 2013. Why I Painted Hands For My Self Portrait. Most semesters, I end up painting a self portrait. I've painted my face several times and I'm pretty sick of it, so I painted my hands in beginning painting. Afterward I came across a little note I meant to make into a scrapbook page along with a photo of my hands. (I haven't scrapbooked in a long time.) Here's how it goes:. These hands have felt the sympathetic, loving squeeze of teenage children and recognized the adults they are tryi...

Illustrated Gratitude: Trying to get in the drawing mood
http://illustratedgratitude.blogspot.com/2015/01/trying-to-get-in-drawing-mood.html
Saturday, January 10, 2015. Trying to get in the drawing mood. An exercise from the Sketchbook Skool Bootkamp class. Draw an apple in various stages of consumption. This was fun and relaxing. I even loosened up a little. I did this while listening to my Bible study lesson. I'll be coming back to this exercise in many variations. Ink and watercolor in a watercolor Moleskine. Illustrated Gratitude: Tips for Procrastination
http://illustratedgratitude.blogspot.com/2015/07/tips-for-procrastination.html
Monday, July 6, 2015. Writing a blog can be a bit intimidating. After all you are basically assuming that what you put out into the world is worth reading. It must have some value, right? I've thought long and hard about what I'm really good at. What do I know enough about to really sound like an expert when writing? 1 Believe in the Myth that is Multi-tasking. 2 Be Overly Organized or Terribly Sloppy. Come on you gotta love graphs! Which leads to the problem of being overly organized. I love a paper...

Illustrated Gratitude: Tapping Into My Inner Frida
http://illustratedgratitude.blogspot.com/2014/07/tapping-into-my-inner-frida.html
Thursday, July 24, 2014. Tapping Into My Inner Frida. I guess it's prickly pear season in my studio. I took several pictures of the flowering cactus when we were in San Saba a few months ago, and made a sketch then. Which was translated into a watercolor painting that I just finished (maybe, I think). Here it is with my reference photos. I don't paint watercolor on the easel. It's just so I can get a look at it. I'll have to try them later tonight. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Art in the Park.

Illustrated Gratitude: Painted Ladies
http://illustratedgratitude.blogspot.com/2014/12/painted-ladies.html
Wednesday, December 17, 2014. Excluding the one on my lap in the photo above all these paintings are of hydrangeas. I'll admit I took a little license with the coloring but retained the general idea and the lovely crowded shape of this amazing flower. I showed one in the last post, but I'll post it again with her sisters. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
