A long time ago, all living things were put together into two kingdoms, which are plants and animals. The two kingdoms were then expanded into five kingdoms in the year 1969, by Robert H. Whittaker. They are Prostista; Fungi; Plantae; Animalia; Monera. Later in the year 1978, Carl R. Woese found out that prokaryotes are more diverse. He then proposed the three domains system. The prokaryotes are divided into 2 domains, namely “Bacteria” and “Archaea”. The third domain is the “Eukaryotes”.

It is test on the characteristics, for example, the ability to form endospores, presence of flagella, the motility of the bacteria and the lactose fermentation.
