January | 2013 | MicroExperience
https://microexperience.com/2013/01
Archive for January, 2013. A few spare parts can go a long way. I spotted a great deal on some really nice, modern kitchen chairs, which came out to something like $29 each for a set of four. When I opened up the box, I was pleased to see that the parts were in fairly good shape. However, once I started counting the screws and washers and such, […]. Filed under: User Experience. Archive for December, 2012. Keeping street signs simple. While seeing some family over the holidays, I found myself in the car heading to a big nature preserve. We knew roughly how to get there, but still had to rely on street signs to figure out where to turn. At one intersection in particular, neither of us in the car could figure out which […]. The challenge of getting work done with work gloves on | MicroExperience
https://microexperience.com/2013/02/28/the-challenge-of-getting-work-done-with-work-gloves-on
What the choice of paper bags says about a grocery store. Helping customers exchange limited-quantity items. The challenge of getting work done with work gloves on. For instance, the scissor handles were too small to easily fit my fingers through, so cutting off a piece of tape was an exercise in patience. I already have just about the thinnest gloves you can get, which made me wonder: why doesn’t anyone market scissors, tape and other work supplies that are optimized for gloved usage? Archive for the ‘Security’ Category. Trading usability for security. I got a little message from salesforce.com last night. Well, not very little at all. You see, it took them over 700 words to explain how to use the new login process, designed to keep users from having their login information stolen. I’ve never found them to be very concise in their communication with customers, […]. Never email passwords to your users. Robert Hoekman, Jr. Signal vs. Noise. Blog at WordPress.com.

On a Brickwerks mission. 10 Jan, 2017. The summer seems a long way off at the moment, especially with reports of snow storms hitting the UK soon. When it comes to preparing for trips and getting those jobs done, allowing a bit of extra time can take the pressure off. We have our Iceland trip looming in July and I knew there were a few niggles with The Frankenwagen. The major problem being a nasty noise coming from the front of the van when in 4wd. The noise was quickly diagnosed as a worn CV joint. We ha...

When a short power cord doesn’t measure up. In a small feat that’s probably not impressive to anyone but me, I managed to cram all of my ancillary electronics — like the printer and shredder — into a single closet at my house. As you might imagine, getting all the cables wrangled and tied was one of the hardest parts, especially for the power cords. And one cord stood out as a particular pain. Filed under: User Experience. Where’s the “healthy” food? During a recent trip, I found myself in the airport lo...
