This week we’ve been frantically trying to get Minty2 ready to go to Greenland onboard the yacht Gambo next week. We’ve now had two days of testing at Bala lake in Snowdonia and are now fairly confident we’ve got a non leaking hull and reasonably working control, telemetry data, remote control and video telemetry systems. Some of the projects I work on in my spare time are autonomous sailing boats. At the moment most of this work is done as part of AberSailbot. These projects involve programming as well as electronics and a bit of engineering. The above photo is of Dewi one of Aber Sailbot's racing boats. Bobalong is AberSailbot's microtransat boat. Bobalong's brain is an Atmega32u4 which is running at 8Mhz. It also uses a HMC6343 electronic compass, a EM-408 GPS and a Rowind.
