Musings of a TCK who can't seem to get unstuck. Thursday, August 28, 2014. When "I'm from." is a Difficult Sentence to Finish. When I read this post on Communicating Across Boundaries. I cried a bit. I can relate to the little girl trying to do an assignment in a way that will make her mono-cultural teacher happy. And I love how the "first draft" actually makes perfect sense to those of us who are Third Culture Kids. Her poem says it so well. I’m from the wide airplane wings. But always feeling at home.

I read about how TCKs sometimes develop a large dislike and disdain for their passport culture. At the time it didn't apply to me, but now it does. With a vengeance. The reason for my eruption was the trouble I had to go through just to get money to Africa in order to help someone. You don't often hear about such things because most Western models are not sustainable in the countries they try to help.
