A sustainable lifestyle blog with an emphasis on textiles, sewing and clothing! September 22, 2015. I hope everyone’s September is going well so far. One of the garments I worked on this month was an end-of-summer shibori dress. Deep blues remind me of September, and I found some printed cotton that carries the trendy and summery indigo shibori look into fall. There’s not a lot of white which … More September Shibori. where is my instruction manual...: sewaholic gabriola

I like these {links}. I like these {books}. I like these {because I made them}. Jul 19, 2015. Isn't summer the best? In between swimming lessons, parks, gymnastics, and more swimming, I finally got around to making the Sewaholic Gabriola, which is basically like a grown-up princess skirt. I started with five yards of rayon challis, and even though this pattern eats a lot of fabric, I still have enough left to make a matching blouse. I really love the shape of this skirt! I heart Cambie | Ginger Jac
https://gingerjac.wordpress.com/2014/08/13/cambie-dress
Enter, my first Cambie dress, and I am in lurrrvvveeeee! Usual shocking wardrobe selfie…. Luckily I did a test run with some scraps of quilting cotton, as for some reason I measured myself and cut out a size 10…. and when I tried the finished product on it was swimming on me and looked HORRIBLE… so re-measured myself and realised I should have actually made a 6. Don’t know what on earth was going on there. Lucky for muslins! Test run with some scraps of quilting cotton! So my first wearable. Also, as the...
Tropical Xerea Dress – Design By Lindsay
http://www.lindsaywoodward.com/2015/08/tropical-xerea-dress.html
August 5, 2015. I fell for Pauline Alice’s new pattern, the Xerea Dress. The moment it was released. Shift and tent dresses (views A and B) aren’t my usual style, but I loved the design details so much that I thought it was worth a try. I tried using “snug hug” seam binding instead of bias tape for the neckline and armholes, and it seemed to work okay. The neckline doesn’t quite lie flat, but I don’t think it’s too noticeable. This gorgeous fabric is a printed rayon from Blackbird Fabrics. It’s the...

Catch-up. A Totally Non Sewing Post. Ooops just realised how long its been…. sleep has won out over blogging most nights! The last month has been just cray-cray (oh seriously did I just say that? As my toddler and I made the massive trek from Tbilisi to Brisbane (Australia) and back, by ourselves, which due to the nature of connecting (or should I say non-connecting) flights, gave us over 12hrs in Dubai both ways. Toddler was “not-too-bad” on the way out, and since he is still under 2 (just! Dubai…...
