April | 2010 | notes from middle america
https://midwestcrossings.wordpress.com/2010/04
Notes from middle america. Standing still in milwaukee. Has it been that long? April 21, 2010. Sorry, another unexplained absence in the blogosphere. thanks to ruth for reminding me that i had a blog! 🙂 it’s been a lovely month, the weather is turning, the flowers are beginning to pop, and the lawn was mowed today for the first time so the smell of fresh cut grass pervades the house. v. nice. 9-10: ‘signs of suicide’ training with seniors. 10-11: junior planning meetings with small groups of 4-5 students.
weeds | notes from middle america

Notes from middle america. Standing still in milwaukee. July 22, 2010. This started as a small weed next to our backyard steps. it’s now about five feet tall. and i can’t bear to cut it because of this beautiful purple flower. pretty soon it’ll dry up and i’ll find it stuck to the side of my socks, impossibly hard to remove. but for now, it reminds me that beautiful things can come from things that sometimes appear ugly. Notes from middle america. Standing still in milwaukee. July 16, 2010. I like this video. how many times have you been out somewhere and someone has said something that just made you cringe? It happens. i like his argument for the conversation we need to have when that happens. what does it mean when we ignore it and let the moment pass? I know i’ve done that, and it doesn’t feel good! July 8, 2010. July 6, 2010. The other day where a 22 year old blogger asked older bloggers to give her some advice as to...

Notes from middle america. Standing still in milwaukee. Back in the saddle. August 24, 2010. So what have i been up to? It’s just that i can’t do much about the state of education in milwaukee and beyond just now, i have no control over the fact that there just simply are NO COUNSELORS for hire right now. so instead, i’m beginning to widen the net and look at other options, outside the narrow box i started with. i’m not giving up, i’m giving in. That’s all i’ve been doing? August 28, 2010 at 1:50 pm.

Matt and Kalees Playlist. Thursday, February 25, 2010. Just a quick update on Matt for y'all. Spring Training has officially begun. Matt and Kalees Playlist. Monday, November 14, 2011. Bikram Yoga Teacher Training. I realize it would have been better of me to keep up with my blogging over this incredible experience. unfortunately that has not been the case so I will attempt to express some more of the journey right here now. There are so many things. So many things that I want to share. So many beautiful moments I've gotten to feel. So many little "clicks" in my mind and thought process where I've had a mental "Ooooooh, now. You're w...

Matt and Kalees Playlist. Sunday, September 19, 2010. Not quite the year we expected, but its been the best of our life. The phenomenon about gratitude is that its difficult to feel bad when you feel grateful. The mind has only room for one thought at a time. If there were ever a year for growth, this has been it. Although things didnt go exactly as we thought they might, Ive seen every single moment unfold into a beautiful journey of self-awareness and genuine happiness - this goes for Matt as well.

Matt and Kalees Playlist. Saturday, October 1, 2011. Bikram Yoga Teacher Training. The Beginning of the Journey (Weeks 1 and 2). Was I really ready for something so emotionally jarring, physically challenging, spiritually moving? I spent the week before leaving in tears anytime I thought about leaving. it was tough and not something I expected to struggle with when I initially committed to the training. I'm now done with my second week of the training and WOW! It is NO JOKE! I've also tried hard to keep ...

Matt & Kalee's Playlist: No Sugar: what I've learned without it.
http://mattandkalee.blogspot.com/2011/01/no-sugar-what-ive-learned-without-it.html
Matt and Kalees Playlist. Friday, January 7, 2011. No Sugar: what I've learned without it. Like most Americans, I have my share of mildy-serious addictions. Off the top of my head- coffee, facebook, the Today Show, queso, my iPhone. Five months ago, back in September, after trying and failing time after time to limit my sugar intake, I decided that I was going to go a whole 30 days without. So I did it. 33 days actually, without any sugar. After the first two weeks, it was a breeze! My whole mentality wa...

Matt and Kalees Playlist. Friday, May 14, 2010. The Homestand - And my body's struggle to adjust. It's no secret that I'm a creature of habit. I love having my own routine and I thrive on sticking with it. I get up at 7 am every morning, drink about 70 ounces of water (no joke! Spread out over about an hour and a half), have one cup of coffee followed by my Fiber One/Kashi cereal mix with some fruit followed by a cup of green tea and my multivitamin. NBC's. Laughter, fun, and love. Have a little wiggle r...

Matt and Kalees Playlist. Friday, February 4, 2011. The comfort in calling this HOME. But there's always a certain city, no matter how much back and forth and traveling all over you do, that feels like "coming home." Its usually a city where you've spent a good deal of time - not just. There, but exploring, growing, making friends that inhabit the city full time - stepping outside your comfort zone of the monotonous "to-and-from the field" and really getting to. The city. falling in love with it. Traded ...
