Alex Andrea Garrett: Moving (& what our space means to us)
http://movingoninchicago.blogspot.com/2012/05/moving-what-our-space-means-to-us.html
Friday, May 18, 2012. Moving (& what our space means to us). We are really attached to stuff. I know that's not a very profound statement, but think about it: we are attached to lucky charms (although haven't seen anyone carrying a lucky rabbit's foot anytime recently), we're attached to houses (I remember being on the verge of tears when my childhood house was sold), and we're attached to certain rooms/pieces of furniture (Mine's a chair in my living room.). Where does this attachment come from? As I ta...

http://movingoninchicago.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 8, 2012. Since I started this blog, I've been toying around with changing the name. I've started a new blog, and I hope you'll join me at AlexAGarrett.blogspot.com. I'll continue to share some of my personal life, but will focus on my work and professional life a little more. Posted by Alex Andrea. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Posted by Alex Andrea. Sunday, July 8, 2012. I work in higher education, have a conflicted interest in sports, and love my dog. Go Mariners and Red Wings (see? Finding ...

Alex Andrea Garrett: Attempt at slowly catching up...
http://movingoninchicago.blogspot.com/2012/06/sunday-merger.html
Sunday, June 10, 2012. Attempt at slowly catching up. I've been slowly writing this, but haven't had much energy to do anything, let alone spell check, proof, and post (or upload pictures.) but here we go. (On a side note - I think my cold is gone! June 8 - What are your favorite decorative items/household pieces? This chair is ridiculous. It can fit me; my dog and me; my dog; my cat; or (most importantly) me and my coffee and a book. This past year has been a challenge for me - learning to let go, to mo...

Alex Andrea Garrett: Amendments
http://movingoninchicago.blogspot.com/2012/06/amendments.html
Tuesday, June 5, 2012. June 5: Come up with a new constitutional amendment. I'm a little fired up about politics right now (Wisconsin, Gay marriage, equal pay, the list goes on.), so I'm trying not to take this super seriously. All persons must spend at least 1% of their day laughing. We all have seen those inspirational quotes (either online, on boards, printed in offices, etc.) We should Live well. We should Love much. But most importantly, we should Laugh often. Closer to Fine - Indigo Girls. I would ...

Alex Andrea Garrett: I totally forgot it was June...
http://movingoninchicago.blogspot.com/2012/06/i-totally-forgot-it-was-june.html
Monday, June 4, 2012. I totally forgot it was June. I was 100% planning on jumping back on the blogging bandwagon with June 1st, and the first of the Reverb Broads 2012 posts. And then all of a sudden it was June 4th. I'm still going to participate, just in a short version: catch-up style. June 2: What gives you nightmares? June 3: Who are your role models? I recently had this conversation with a colleague. It seems that a lot of people have mentors and role models, and it's not really anything that ...

Alex Andrea Garrett: September 2011
http://movingoninchicago.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 30, 2011. Books in January. (That's either a sign that it's a down-time at work, OR that I spent a lot of time commuting.) I read about struggles. And I learned that you're not alone. Whether you are a corporate hot-shot thrown into motherhood when your best friend dies ( The Accidental Mother, Rowan Coleman). Or struggling because of new surroundings ( The Beautiful Things that Heaven Bears, Dinaw Mengestu),. You will never be alone. I read about choices. We can move on. Or the test of...

Alex Andrea Garrett: January 2012
http://movingoninchicago.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 7, 2012. I did not choose a word in 2011, and I'm not sure why that was. 2011 was a fun and challenging year, but I don't think I was ready to commit to any one word. I could pick a lot of words that would sum up my 2011, but this post is about looking forward to my 2012. When I say CONNECT. I mean a lot of things. I want to connect on campus. I want to connect. I want to connect. I also want to connect more with. I want this to be a year of growth, and I think by using my connect #onew...

Saturday, April 28, 2012. By no means is this perfect, but it was exactly what I was looking for when I didn't want to head all the way into the city. 1) The sandwich ingredients:. 2 chicken breasts (cut in half to fit on a bun). 2 tbsp. water. 1 tbsp. sugar. 1/4 tsp. baking soda. 1/4 tsp. dry mustard. Alex Andrea Garrett: June 2011
http://movingoninchicago.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 2, 2011. What I learned on my sick day:. No matter how strong the love, the last thing your partner wants to do at 6:30 in the morning is shine a flashlight down your throat. Everyone in the house has a routine. They do NOT want to be bothered, and you will get the look from the furry ones if you try to mess up their routine. How to properly throw a frisbee so that the dog will jump. The doctor was nicer to you when you were a child. Now a sore throat gets prescribed horse pills. Sachat is...

Alex Andrea Garrett: October 2011
http://movingoninchicago.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 10, 2011. When autumn leaves start to fall. I don't know about where you are, but the weather has been teasing us. Is it fall, is it summer, is it maybe spring? I decided today that it is officially fall and I kicked it off with this outfit - I've started following a number of fashion blogs (don't worry, I won't turn this into one) in the hopes of finding ways to wear those random accessories I own that I'm never sure what to do with. The changing colors: yellow, orange and red. I attribu...
